How long can you swaddle?

Katie has been swaddled to sleep since she was born. She has slept a couple times without being swaddled, but really just for naps.

When is swaddling no longer advised for babies?

I am hoping that its still a while off....

I am wondering this too, as Norah still desparately needs swaddling.

Avery liked the swaddle for sleeping until she was 8 1/2 months old, and then she would break out of it, and she weaned herself off it. I asked my ped, and he said as long as she wasn't swaddled 24/7, then it was fine and wouldn't affect anything develpmentally-wise.

Sabrina is 6 weeks old and all about the swaddle.

Jillian will become famous soon enough
We swaddled Janelle for 7 months and even now at 21 months she sleeps in a sleep sack so her legs are basically still swaddled. She won't sleep any other way.

We swaddled Caid for about 3 weeks, he hated it.

I can't see any reason why it would matter how long she's swaddled.. as long as it's just as night. If it helps her to sleep, then by all means, do it!

Micayla was swaddled for about 2 months... Melayna just a few days. She didn't like it.

Caroline loved it for nearly 6 months, before she was strong enough (or cared enough!) to break out of it.

Julian was swaddled until he was about 2-3 months old - by that point, he was getting himself out of it, and he was also too big for the blankets to wrap him up completely!

As long as it's only when they're sleeping, I think it's fine to do it until they don't want it anymore. Jason never liked being swaddled - he'd wriggle his arms out immediately.

My ped said the same thing.
My son grew out of it himself. I thought for sure it was going ot be rough weaning him off it but at abour 5 months old he kept kicking out of it and sleeping just fine (we used the miracle blanket). I just went with his lead and wasnt worried about it restricting him developmentally. So long as its only used when they are sleeping and not doing much movement anyway...

Both of my girls HATE having their arms restricted, so we've always swaddled from the underarms down. Emily was swaddled until 8 months...she started kicking her way out of it overnight, and I just stopped doing it. Molly is 7 weeks old, and loves being swaddled. I only do it at night, not for naps. I know Dr Karp (where I learned about swaddling in The Happiest Baby on the Block) recommends weaning them from swaddling at 3 months, but my pedi said if she was still sleeping well, then to let her lead.

Anna was in a full swaddle for maybe 5+ months, and then just her legs until about 8 months.
