Is this normal?
My 11 week old is going 5 hours or so between feedings. Is this normal for an infant? I am afraid that he is not getting enough to eat but I figure if he wanted to eat he would let me know.

It is actually during both the day and the night. He is not fussy at all but he has been pretty stuffed up the last couple of days. He is breastfed.

That was normal for my daughter when she was stuffed up. I think the congestion etc makes them not want to eat etc...espically since its hard for them to breath, eat, swallow etc.

My 5 week old has gone 4-6 hours between feedings. But, she also will cluster feed in the evenings. And, that means feeding every 30 minutes sometimes for a few hours.

Thanks for the advice. I was getting really worried but he has plenty of wet diapers so I know that he is not dehydrated. I think that he may just be feeling a little under the weather.

It is hard for them to suck if they are stuffed up. keep an eye on the diapers and hope he feels better soon.

DD has always slept more than she was 'supposed' to. She was sleeping 4-6 hours around 5 weeks old. At 11 weeks old im pretty sure DD was already sleeping through the night.

Both of my kids would go 4-5 hours between feedings often at least once a day if not more. I was bottle feeding but I did notice that they'd eat a few feedings closer to together usually in the evening to kind of make up for it.
The only thing that I tried to watch was to make sure they were getting plenty of formual overall during the day because if they don't then they'll stockpile at night which means more nighttime feedings for you. I tried not to let them go more than 4 hours between feedings during the day for this reason, and I still don't...sometimes that means waking them up or if they've been fighting sleep and it's pushing 3 hours since they last ate, I'll try to feed them again and THEN get them to nap. It hasn't hurt my two any - I'm getting comments a lot now about how big they are for 4 months old and they were 6 weeks premature! |
