he'll develop fine, maybe just a little slower. Emma HATED tummy time- would scream bloody murder the second she was on her belly, so she didn't get a lot of it. She didn't roll over until 5-6 months, and crawled at 8.5 months. But she walked right before her 1st bday and hasn't stopped since. Now, she even lays on her belly on the floor to watch a video, color, or read a book. They get over it.

You could try putting him on his belly with his chest on the boppy, or something with a bit of an incline. Or, maybe those rolling toys that look like a cylinder they roll with their chests?

Genavieve hates it too. 5 minutes max is all we manage without her screaming bloody murder. I have tried propping her on the Boppy too and she seems to last a tad longer but not much.

do you have an excersize ball? or even a beach ball would work. You can put him on it and roll him and bounce him on ball

Mine hate TT, too. I found they tolerate it pretty well if I lay on my back and then lay them on their tummy on my chest. They will push up and look around and not get quite so pissed off.

Charlotte hates it too. I've started propping her up on a boomerang (triangle) pillow and she likes it a little better, but other than that nothing works.

Adi hated being on her tummy until she started rolling over just before 3 months, granted she still doesnt favor her stomach but she can go a good 15 minutes now instead of the usual 15 seconds before screaming. There is times though where she'll roll onto her tummy and lets us know to get her off her stomach. She started tollerating her stomach more and more when she was in the boppy and was entertained with something in front of her.

I have a quick question about this. My two both dislike tummy time so we do short spurts several times a day. Logan will put up with it but he literally will put no effort out while he's there - he just lays there. He has great head control when you hold him and if i'm holding him he'll lift his head, etc. so I don't think it's because he can't do anything.

But here's my question...if you prop them up on a boppy or put them on a ball, etc...is this really still helping them? If they are propped up then they don't need to push themselves up and obviously they aren't trying to roll either. I only ask becasue I do prop them up occasionally and it seems to make them both tolerate TT for a bit longer, but I just worry that I'm defeating the purpose of TT. Our developmental nurse told me I could prop them up but that was when they were 1 month old and she's not supposed to come back till 6 months old. I should just call her and ask her but since this conversation is going I figured I'd ask here first...

Yes, you NEED to do tummy time for proper development! We did not make Janelle do it at all cause she hated it so much and at 9 months old she (according to her developmental ped evaluation) was at a 3 month level for upper body strength, and even with special excersizes and stuff at 15 months she was still only at a a 9-12 month level (we are hoping that at 24 months, her next evaluation, she will be caught up.) The developmental pediatrician said that he believes this delay was caused by lack of tummy time, so I think it is something you just have to force even if they hate it!

The developmental ped told us that at least half of the tummy time (which should be for 15 minutes 3 times a day, but 10 minutes 2 times a day is the bare minimum) should be flat on her stomach on the floor and the other half can be propped up or on our chests if she just can't tolerate the floor any longer.

Thanks. Funniest thing, since I wrote that Madelyn has started to tolerate it better and she's even pushing up a bit! Logan still hates it but I keep thinking, at least he's protesting it which means he's making some effort instead of just laying there doing nothing like he was for a bit there!

My son started rolling over just after 3 months old. I found the best time to do tummy time with him was when he first woke up in the morning. He was happiest, well rested and wasn't quite ready to eat yet. He also sleeps on his stomach so I think that has helped him alot with his upper body strength
