Soy formula and constipation

We just switched my 8 month old DD to soy formula a few weeks ago, and ever since then she's been having pooping problems! She'll poop a few times a day, but she strains almost every time, and sometimes hardly anything will come out. She's never cried while pooping, but she'll grunt and her face gets red while she's pushing. Does soy formula typically cause constipation? She eats tons of fruits and veggies, so I don't think it's from her diet at all. Has anyone else had this problem with soy formula??

Melissa is an unknown quantity
Well, what does her poop look like? Is it like rabbit pellets? Hard and formed?

Katie is on soy formula also and we give her water with her meals. She usually only drinks about an ounce of water a day and that clears up any straining and the pellet poop.

Genavieve has soy formula and poops about every other day which our pedi says is perfectly normal. I haven't noticed her straining at all though. She goes back and forth between BM and the formula.

It is hard and formed, but she doesn't always have the little rabbit pellet ones. She gets water from her sippy cup with every meal, but like Katie, really only gets maybe an ounce.

Maybe her system just needs to adjust to the soy, and then she'll go back to pooping regularly? Or maybe I should try giving her more water (like in a bottle, as opposed to from the sippy cup) every day?

We have this problem with Adi, she isnt on soy, just Similac Advance and her stools were hard and she would SCREAM before she went sometimes, so I finally called and said enough is enough, we took out the iron from the formula by switching and the NP said to give her 1oz of pear juice mixed with 1oz of water every morning, and boy has that made a difference! She is one happy baby!

Soy Fomula Constipation

Yes finally found some other parents who have had problems with soy and constipation! my 6 month old seems to have the most uncommon reactions to things and so many medical proffesionals look at me sideways when i tell them the soy was causing her uncomfortable hard poos to the point she was screaming, and rice cereal the most safest thing we are meant to give to our kids made her break out in hives , runny nose, watery eyes!
so yes i believe soy does cause constipation. we have switched to goats formula as she cannot stomach cows formula has bad reflux on cows. Goats seems to be working well for now.

What did you mix the rice cereal with? when I gave my son rice cereal he also got hives but it was because I mixed it with a formula that had cows protein in it, once I started mixing it with my breastmilk or just plain water he was able to stomach it fine... I have heard that goats milk is great for children with allergies glad you found something that works
