ear infections?

What can I expect? We are battling our first. (Emma i almost 6 mos) She just finished the antibiotics and is sill tugging at one of her ears she had an infection in both). I am not too surprised, both DH and I had them often as kids. Overall, I think she handled it well, but I did as well as a baby, so it was hard at first to realize she had one.

Did you battle with antibiotics or use the wait and see procedure? Did they reoccur often? I am going to put a call back into the ped this morning. My main concern is we fly to LA May 10th and I do not want this still ahnding around.

Hey.. what do ya know, I just go back from taking Abby to the doctor and she has an ear infection in both ears!! They cleaned her ears out and she screamed, it was horrible!
They are giving her antibiotics, so I guess Abby & Emma will both be going through it at the same time.

He also is having us give her motrin which seems to have helped greatly, she doesn't seem to be in as much pain. Before we gave her the motrin she spent half of yesterday screaming. She seems to be a little better today.

I have no advice but I hope Emma feels better soon!

I'd definitely have her rechecked. They usually give the weakest antibiotic they can to start with.

Matthew had 8 or 9 EIs between 3 months and 10 months, when he finally got tubes. He got one every time he got teeth. It was ridiculous. He just had one a couple weeks ago too. I hope we aren't starting a cycle again (his tubes are not engaged anymore).

We generally went with the antibiotics. His EIs were always really bad and pain reliever wouldn't cut it at all.

Yikes, I called in and talked with the nurse... She is doing so much better, started her on solids again and she is eating better than she did prior to get sick (stomach bug, cold and EIs - we ahve been going at this for a good month!) The nurse wanted to wait and see since the only symptom was her rubbing... I jumped right in and said, my main concern was I fly with Emma May 10 and I DID not want this bugging her yet. So we talked and instead of getting her in we decided to move up her 6 mos appt (was May 4) to a week closer. Only opening was this friday so I am happy with that as long as the rubbing is all she shows. I want to get this thing so it does not reoccur!

What kind did they give her? How much/how often. I am curious about how different doctors approach this.

When I called in last week (she still had a couple days left on her meds and was still crying when she drank at times) she told me to try a certain OTC ear drop but for the life of me I can not remember which one. I had to ask whether I could give Tylenol or not and she approved that.

Hope Abby is doing better!

Similsan Ear Drops? We've never tried them because we had some numbing drops from our ped.

That might well be them because I do remember the name starting with an S. I was gong to run by the market last night to look but I sure they do not have it.. they do not seem to have much here. Why I did not look at Target yesterday I do not know...
