Pillows?

For those of you who have toddlers...have you let your kid(s) have a pillow in the crib? When did you do it? Landen (18 months) seems to have an interest now for pillows and will pull them off the couch and lay on them...so I know he knows what they are for.

Thanks,
Stacy

Matthew didn't have one in his crib, but started using one in his big boy bed (moved right before 18 months). He loves it. It's a full sized pillow and sometimes he sleeps with his whole body on it

Julian has a little toddler pillow in his crib - he's had it since he was about a year old. He doesn't sleep on it much, though - he squirms so much in his sleep, his feet are just as likely to be on it as his head! He loves pillows, though. Every time he sees one, he stops and lays down on it!

I plan to put one in my DD's big girl bed with her when I move her in there later this month... she's just turned 17 months.

That leads me to a side question... Cortney... How did you make the transition for Morgan into a big girl bed? Any suggestions? My SIL suggests to just make the switch in one fell swoop. She had a friend who tried transitioning her child more slowly with naps in the afternoons in the big bed and still sleeping at night in the crib... but found it then took forever to make the transition. Hmmm... Maybe I should start a new thread with this question

That is what we did with Madelynn. We made a big deal out of her new bed and how much fun it would be to sleep in a big girl bed and she's done fine with it. She's been sleeping in it since August.

Darcy got a pillow when she was 8 months old. She had a terrible terrible cold and the Dr suggested a pillow under her crib mattress to help her breathe. But she moved around so much while she was sleeping that she was always down at the bottom of the crib. She knew what a pillow was, because we have two that always fall off the couch and she would lay on them when she was tired. So we put a flat firm one in her crib with her to see how she'd do during a nap. She loved it and has slept with it since.

We are also thinking of putting a pillow in Alexia's crib as well, as she has been taking an interest in them. For those of you who have pillows for your lil' ones and they are still in cribs....do you have a regular adult pillow (flat & firm) or a toddler pillow? Is there any real difference between the two besides the fact the toddler one is smaller I'm guessing. Because I'm not sure if it's even worth buying a toddler pillow OR to just use one of our old pillows that has gone flat.

with maggie, we used a pillow that I used to take hiking and camping with me. It wasn't anything fancy, it was just smaller, and it worked great. Also I didn't fear that the little pillow would get over her face and suffocate her. Knowing me as I do, I probably picked it up at one of the mega discount stores for less than $3 -- dollars well spent, she still uses it.

I got a toddler pillow for Madelynn from one step ahead. It's really fluffy though, I probably wouldn't have ordered it if I knew it at the time, since she was still in her crib then.

We bought a travel pillow at Wal-Mart for Micah and he's been "using" it since he was about 15 or 16 months old. But he squirms around so much at night, his head is basically never on it.

I've heard, though, that getting a pillow for your child while (s)he's in the crib can help them prepare to move into a big bed. The thought is they will gradually stop alot of the night squirming where their head ends up at the opposite end of the crib. It's not working for us, but maybe a larger pillow would...

This week Caroline has been super congested and I know the fact that she's a tummy sleeper is making it worse. So I tried to give her a pillow hoping that would help keep her on her back. I tried a firm travel pillow I had and then a larger pillow neither worked. She enjoys playing with pillows and laying on them on the couch but she just squirms all over in her own bed.

Maggie has been using a full sized flat pillow in her bed lately.

(I think one of her dolls has been using the little camping pillow)

We got the $2.50 full-sized pillow from Ikea. I looked for the travel pillows at Wal-Mart but they only had the around-the-neck kind and no one seemed to have any idea what I wanted.

Rebekah started using her pillow about 6 weeks ago. She sleeps in one place now instead of rolling all over her crib.

Cassidy never used an actual pillow until she moved to her bed at 2 1/2. She has been using a stuffed animal as a pillow, but I don't really know when I started doing that.

If memory serves me correctly, Dean was about 18 months old before I let him have a pillow.....I was too afraid to allow him to have one before that.
