Preemie clothes?

When Isaiah was born he was 6lbs 10ozs and all the newborn and 0-3 sleepers were huge on him, I mean he could swim in them. It was OK having a summer baby since the gerber newborn onsies fit him just fine so he wore those the first month of his life. But for a winter baby I want to make sure I have sleepers that fit. So Im thinking I should buy like 5 preemie sleepers just in case and go from there. What Im wondering is how big was your baby at birth and what size did they wear in their first month?

Madison was 6lbs 15oz at birth and lived in preemie gowns and sleepers for the first month. I was lucky, I had no idea she would wear preemie clothes being full term but someone had just had a preemie baby and gave me tons of beautiful little girl preemie clothes. Then she slowly moved up to smaller 0-3 clothes. At 5 months old she can still wear some bigger 0-3m clothes. The onesie I bought her home it, way too big, still fits her now.

Janelle was 5lbs 9ounces but lost 17 ounces in her first week and took 3-4 weeks to make it back to her birth weight. She wore 0-3lb gap stuff (which I guess they no longer make) for the first 2-3 weeks and then preemie clothes for the next 1 1/2 to 3 months, depending on the item....she actually wore gerber preemie onsies for 4 months and KRU brand preemie onsies for well over 6 months (but she is still wearing 3-6 months in this brand with plenty of room to grow, so I think they run big.)

Well you know that Melayna was 6lbs 8oz at birth and wore preemie stuff for the first month. But Micayla was 7lbs 5 oz and wore mostly 0-3. I'd say go ahead and buy the preemie stuff once it's close to your due date but keep the tags so in case #2 is bigger you can return them.

Emily was exactly 7 pounds and she wore 0-3 - but they were HUGE on her. I just wasn't able to go out and get preemie clothes after she was born because I had a c-section so I couldn't get around very easily at first! Next baby, I'll definitely get a few preemie sleepers.

Carson was 1lb. 14oz., but 5lbs. when we brought him home. The nurses told us to avoid buying an overwhelming amount of preemie clothes because they grow very quickly. They were right! We bought a few basic things in the preemie size, but most everything was 0-3mo. stuff. He wasn't in the preemie stuff very long.

I agree with Mandi - if you buy it, save the tags just in case.

Yeah thats why I was thinking just 5 basic sleepers would be fine. I actualy have 3 preemie onsies, I never ment to buy them though, the package was labled newborn and had an "iregular" sticker on it, I guess the preemie size was what was iregular

This picture is Isaiah in a newborn romper at 2 weeks and you can see it was almost to his ankles!

Jackson was 5 lbs 7 oz and wore premie stuuf for the first month of his life, some of his 0-3 stuff was too big even at 2 months....

I think you are smart to buy a few premie things, even though they say they fit up to 6 lbs, Jackson was over 8 pounds before they were too small...

I think Janelle was about 7lbs before she outgrew any of it, and that was just in the arms of a few sleepers (she has monkey arms like her mommy). Most of it she wore untill she was about 9lbs. I definitely wouldn't say she outgrew any of it quickly...I started praying she would finally grow into her 0-3 month clothes at about 2 months old, cause I was tired of the preemie stuff! But she has never been quick to gain weight...

Carolyn was 7lbs 3oz when she was born and her preemie coming home outfit was still too big! I only bought 2 preemie outfits since I knew they grow so fast. So when company was over thefirst week or so, she was in one of those outfits. By 3 weeks she was more into 0-3 clothing, although it was still a little big.

Here she is coming home from the hospital in her preemie outfit

Maya was 7 lbs. 6 oz. at birth, 6 lbs. 14 oz. the day we brought her home. She could wear preemie outfits for around six weeks. She was born at the end of October and I remember taking her to Christmas party in a little red velvet preemie dress.

Caroline was 8lbs. 1 oz. at birth and never saw the inside of a preemie *anything*! Her coming home outfit was 0-3 and was a teensy bit long, but she fit just fine into the rest of normal sized stuff. Needless to say, she's been at the top of the height and weight charts her whole life!

Avery was a peanut at birth...she was 6lbs 2oz and I did not buy anything "preemie" sized for her. A lot of her clothes were big on her but I just rolled up sleeves on them. Plus she was a summer baby and she wore a lot of onesies and onesie outfits. I guess I felt we had spent enough on clothes already, they spend such a short time in them already and didn't see the point.

Nicholas was 6lbs 3oz at birth and even preemie clothes were too big for him. He was in preemie clothes for the first month.
