Help! Pooping in Crib!
Here's the scoop. Tuesday, Lexie was in her crib at naptime. My husband was in his office and heard her say Poopie Diaper. Well, he went in and found her wearing just her shirt and socks, but no diaper. Fortunately she had not pooped....
UNTIL Today! ![]() MIL found her and was alone with my son. Hubby ran out for a few hours. So, she was trying to clean it up and had to let Lexie go free (thus avoiding her nap) I need expert help here! ![]() What should they have done? Time out? Yell? Clean it up and put her back? (... she couldn't get the darn sheet off! Darn cribs! )ANY ADVICE would greatly be appreciated. This better not be an everyday thing! |

Sounds like pottying signs to me! What they should do IMO:
(a) packing tape on the diaper so she can't get it off! (or put a onesie on overtop) (b) DO NOT YELL. She's trying to be helpful! So take her out, sit her on the potty, and then get her to help clean up (within reason, of course - have her go with them to put the sheets in the washer or whatever)

Definitely don't punish her for it - you want her to get the idea that pooping is a good thing, just to do it on the potty. I'm not really sure what exactly to do, though. Maybe put the potty in the crib with her

Anne... She has had a onesie on both times. She's obviously figured out the snaps all too easily! Jim liked the packing tape idea!
Yes, now that it's all settling in my mind, I see the need to NOT yell at her. Thanks! But what I don't understand is that she's not at all interested in the potty. She was at one time, but totally lost interest. Another thing is she's started to NOT take naps when she's at home now. She'll play in that crib with her bears for 1 to 2 hours. ![]() |

Alex has only gotten the diaper off once with a pile of poop in it and it was all over his crib. He certainly isn't anywhere near being ready for potty training even though he was saying "EWWWW". I would try going back to the potty with Lexie since she has shown interest before. I like answer (b) that Anne gave you. It's a good sign that she doesn't want to sit in poop.

What about putting the diaper on back words..at least for naps..And having overalls on her
worth a shot. I agree..maybe she is beginning to show you signs that she wants to potty train again. Maybe right before she is ready for her nap...Ask her if she would like to use the potty. Even if she says no..Say "lets try" Then when she is sitting there tell her to try and go Poopie so that she doesn't have a mess in her bed. She might not totally understand but then again..SHE MIGHT. I also agree that even if she is not sleeping while in her crib for her nap..she is still resting and as long as she is good and quiet..this is still rest..for you and her. Jayne

Lette,
Isabelle has done the same thing. Thankfully, it was at daycare though! Isabelle tries to take off her diaper at daycare all the time. I think she likes the reaction it gets from the other kids. Anyway, Katie uses masking tape to keep Isabelle's diaper on. Although she has still managed to take the diaper off once with the tape, it's definitely a deterrent. |

I have to butt in here, as you know Emily LIVES to do this!! I've tried taping her diaper at nap time and bed time...she's mastered that though. Overalls don't work but did for awhile. Diaper on backwards...will have to try that one Jayne!! I've never punished her, I think she does it cause she gets bored because it doesn't matter if there's poopy or pee in it she'll take it off. Potty training doesn't work until SHE's ready for it.....Good luck Lette!!
*Becca did this also when she was about this age but it didn't last nearly as long as Emily's! |

Billy! I was hoping you'd post!
Yeah, I'm kinda figuring that the training won't work until she's ready, but how do I know when exactly that will be? I guess I'll have to see how she reacts next time I bring out the potty.Funny she KNOWS I give candy for success in the potty, but it still doesn't pull her. That's strange in my book! ![]() Kaari... fortunately Lexie hasn't YET done it at daycare. We'll see what happened today! She could be running around naked right now for all I know. Jayne.. thanks! I think I might have MIL try the backwards diaper for naptime. tee hee hee. Let's see how smart she really is. ![]() Becky.. Thanks! I'm going to check her potty interest again this weekend. ![]() THANKS EVERYONE! |

We haven't had the pleasure of Zack trying to take off his diapers just yet... so this is simply *untested* advice. Maybe you should try the new Huggies Convertibles... diapers w/o tabs. They are designed to help parents w/ toddlers on the go... but maybe not having the tabs would make it much more challenging. She'd have to either completely pull the diaper off or tear the sides.

Joe pulled this on us this afternoon, but he just peed, no poop. I blame Mary because she took off his shorts to change him and then didn't bother to put them back on before putting him down for his nap.

Rebekah needs to be dressed at nap time or she takes her diaper off. She hasn't mastered undressing yet.
Now, I know this is going to sound odd but it helped my mom.... My sister would do this all the time from the time she was 18 months old. She potty trained herself at that point but as soon as my mom would put her down for a nap, she'd say she'd have to potty. So, my mom put her potty IN THE CRIB. Paige would use the potty and then take her nap. Just a thought... |

Things have been going okay .... ie no poops!
But she did take her diaper off last week, she just didn't have to poop and Grandmom found her and re-did her. ![]() I found her last Sunday in the morning with her onepiece sleeper unzipped and her onesie unbuttoned. I'm sure she'd be naked, but she can't figure out how to get her sleeper off! ![]() Tuesday Jim put her diaper on backwards and that seemed to do the trick so far! THANKS JAYNE! ![]() |

My son is into trying to get the onsie and onepiece sleepers off too. His hands are always in his diaper.

Just another note on the backwards diaper. Saturday Lexie must have had too much to drink before naptime and she leaked! I noticed that Pampers don't have the same amount of absorbent stuff in the back as they do in the front.
I'm going to try Pull Ups this week. ![]() |
