How long did your baby wear size 0-3 months?
FH and I have started buying clothes here and there as we find them on sale. But everyone keeps telling us not to buy too many size 0-3 months clothes because babies tend to out grow them super quick. So far all we have are a few pairs of booties and knit caps, a 3 pack of onsies, and 2 sleepers all in 0-3 mos. And a few things in assorted larger sizes. My mom insists that I need little more than that to start off with because they only wear that size for a couple of weeks. That just doesn't sound right to me, so I ask you all, how long did your baby wear 0-3 month clothes? and how much more (if anything) do we need in this size? thanks in advance!

Matthew was a big baby (8lbs, 12oz at birth and grew rapidly from there) and he wore 0-3 for about 6 weeks. You definitely need more than you have, especially sleepers and onesies.

Caroline was almost as big as Matthew, and I agree with Nocona that you do need more. Even if you're not going out alot, you need enough to get you through diaper blow-outs/spit ups without having to do laundry every single day! So definitely stock up on sleepers - a big favorite of ours was what we called the "potato sacks", a nightgown with elastic around the bottom to keep their little feet/legs in. Easy for diaper changes, but no muss/no fuss dressing for hanging out at home.

Thanks Nocona and Anne! I knew I was on the right track, but everyone just kept insisting. I feel a tad gullible, being my first baby and all. It just seems like everyone (esp. my mom and FMIL) think they know everything about babies and I don't know anything at because this is my first. I need to start listening to my gut!
Thanks again! |

Rebekah was tiny at birth - 6lb 4oz and 18" long. She wore 0-3 months stuff for about 4 months.
I'd definitely get more than what you have, especially thin cotton sleepers, since it will be hot in July but you'll probably be in air-conditioned places most of the time. |

Madison was 6lbs 15 oz a birth and shes STILL wearing 0-3m clothes at 4 1/2 months old. Shes in mostly 3-6 for regular clothes but she still fits in 0-3m onesies and sleepers without stretching them. She will probably wear them until shes 5 months or maybe a little longer. You wont know until your baby is born what they will wear so dont listen to people when they say your baby will or will not need certain things. You will definitly need more than you have now even if you have a bigger baby. Madison may go through 2 sleepers in 2 hours from spitting up on them or dirty diapers. She has about 10 onesies, she doesnt wear them much but she has about 20 sleepers she pretty much lives in. Even though shes 14 lbs, most 0-3 sleepers go to 11lbs, she still fits in 0-3 comfortably.

Aiden was 7lbs 5 oz at birth. He wore 0-3 for about two months. He's gone from 3-6 and is now growing into 6-9 month clothes. He's growing like a weed and is long and thin. I agree with Harmonie. Go with your gut...for you will not go wrong without it.

What you have might not even last through one day with a newborn. They spit up and poop on stuff a lot when they're young.
My kids were both 7lb 12oz when they were born. Sierra wore 0-3month size stuff until she was about 3 months old Sean I don't think even made it a month in them. You never know. |

jstauffer- that is exactly what I was thinking that I would need a good amount of basics in case of spit up/diaper issues. I don't want to wash clothes every single day.... but they kept telling me not to waste my money...
Thanks everyone! I knew what they were saying sounded way off... maybe they were thinking of newborn size clothes... I could see most babies outgrowing those quickly.... Well, thanks again for reassuring me! |

Katie was 10lbs 13oz when she was born and even she lasted more than a week in 0-3 month clothes!
She wore 0-3 month outfits for two months and I've squeezed her into 0-3 month jammies for just over three months now. (She's long and lean though--not chubby, which might make a difference.) |

tony was 9lbs 4oz and i can't remember how long he was in 0-3....possibly 2 months.
but, what no one has mentioned yet is BOYS PEE OUT THE DIAPER THE FIRST WEEKS! especially if you circumsize and are waiting for it to heal. i must have changed his outfit 5 times the first day he was home. you really should load up on the onesies and like anne, i was also a big fan of the gowns for sleeping they are hard to find though. |

Both of my boys were big (8 lbs. 11 oz. and 9 lbs. 5 oz.)! I'll admit that I didn't buy too much in 0-3 months for them in actual clothing items. I would suggest investing in onsies and sleepers in this size because babies do tend to mess their clothes up alot. My boys probably stayed in 0-3 month for about 6 weeks.

Aidan will be 2 months on the 14th and he is still fitting quite well in his 0-3 months. He has, however, outgrown his newborn sleepers which are smaller than the 0-3's.....and the one preemie outfit he wore home from the hospital...forget it. He outgrew that in the first week I think. He was 7 lbs 15 oz at birth

Janelle wore 0-3 month clothes for 4 months, but she didn't grow into them till she was 2 1/2-3months old...so she wore them from 2 1/2 months till about 6 or 7 months.

aidan was 7lb 15ozs at birth and was in 0-3 for 3 months.
Norah & Elliott have been in 0-3 for 2.5 months now and I can see them lasting another 2-4 weeks in some of it. ITA about the sleep sack thingeys Anne posted about. We love them. You can usually get them at Target and at Kohls. Carters makes them.

Jackson was tiny at birth and he wore 0-3 month clothes from about 1 month until 3 months. Before 1 month old he wore premie clothes - they said they fit up to 5 lbs, but they fit him until he was about 8 lbs. Even now at 4 1/2 months and 16 pounds, he fits into a few 0-3 things...
One thing that I learned is that you really don't need to stock up on everything before the baby is born. Before he was born, I wanted everything to be ready, but after he was here, I welcomed the opportunity to run out and get things. I would definitely buy more 0-3 month things than you have, but don't feel like you have to get everything ahead of time. Plus, my taste in baby clothes changed a bit when he was born. Before he was born I had bought him a bunch of "real clothes" like jeans, cargo pants and stuff, but I found that sleepers were much more practical and looked a lot better at the beginning. I would buy mostly sleepers and one-piece things in 0-3 months, and get more "real clothes" in 3-6 months or larger. |

Micayla wore them until around 3 months. She was 7lbs 5 oz at birth but grew really fast and stayed pretty consistant in the 90%tile as far as height and weight goes. Melayna was 6lbs 8oz at birth and has always been tiny (20%). She's 8 months old and she's actually wearing a 0-3 month dress today.
But I'd say she wore them regularly until she was 5 months old.
