Nasir, Kareem, and I all got the H1N1 vaccine yesterday! I am so freaking relieved!
Nasir and Khalila both got the regular flu shot yesterday, too. I worked out yesterday for 45 mins at an actual gym. It felt so good. It's been months since I went to the gym. Lately, I'd been resorting to just walking around the neighborhood, and it's not working. I need to lose 30 lbs ASAP!We had California Pizza Kitchen for dinner last night. Today we need to do a Costco run and Target run. My ILs are coming over later, so the four of us- R, R, K & K- may go to the gym together as a family, and then maybe to Barnes and Noble after for coffee and relaxing... Tomorrow, Farmer's Market with a friend. Deb, anything we can do to lift her spirits? Send candy, cards, hats, toys, etc? You name it and I'll do it. Just let me know. I know how hard it is to lift a kid's spirits when they are down from chemo. We are getting to that point with Kareem, too. The chemo is zapping his physical and emotional energy. He is also having some trouble with friends. One girl decided she didn't want to be friends with him anyone because she "didn't know how long he'd be around". His other friends are extremely concerned because Kareem looks different (hair loss, weight loss, changing pigment, dark lips, dry skin, black fingernails, etc) and they tell him that they are worried because "he doesn't look so good." ![]() I realize they are only 14 yo, but seriously, they have no idea what to say. It often causes Kareem to be sad. ![]() |

Oh Kika, that's so sad
. 14 year olds are so immature and I'm so sorry to hear that Kareem's friends are hurting his feelings . Give him big hugs from us .Britney Spears sucked . The show was spectacular - the dancers, acrobats, special effects etc were amazing - but she was awful! She lip-synched all but one song, strutted around the stage which apparently was her "dancing" and didn't engage the audience. She spoke once - the only time they turned her microphone on I think - and all she said was "What Up Perth?" . At least Emily enjoyed herself and didn't seem to notice how awful she was. |

You have to love 14 year olds. Most of them are so clueless. Have you tried talking to their parents to explain what is going on with Kareem and how they can help reach their teens? I would want to know if my boys were pulling away from someone because they didn't look well, which is right when they need a friend.

Kika, that's too bad. I agree with Shel about talking to their parents, maybe that will help.

Kika, I'm really glad you, Kareem and Nasir got the H1N1. Must be a load off your mind.
Sorry with how Kareem's friends are treating him. Not cool. Great idea, Shel. I had a WONDERFUL day. This was our long-planned Girls Day Out - there are 4 of us who were really good friends since college. One couldn't make it, but we 3 were out all day shopping. The husbands met at our house and have tried to kill their livers all day drinking and watching movies - don't worry, we've taken the guy's keys away. B got her cousin and friend to watch all the kids at B's house - so they had a almost 7, 6 1/2, 4, almost 4, 2, almost 2, and 1 year old - from 2 - 8 PM. And we went and shopped. Mostly hit Toys R Us so I was able to get a bit of what I needed for the girls. Then dinner at Red Lobster. Very nice time. |

Aww, Kika, I'm so sorry to hear about that!
Clare, at least Emily had a good time! Marcy, I'm jealous!!! ![]() Tonight, we had a surprise birthday party for a friend of ours. He turned 30 on Thursday, so his wife threw a big bash. It was a blast, and we sat around playing Bid all night. ![]()

Kika, I'm so sorry about Kareem's friends. I remember quite well how mean 14 year olds could be. This has to be so hard on him. Hugs to both of you!
Amelia's got the yuck. She's had cold symptoms since Thursday or so but just a runny nose & sore throat. No other complaints. She was running a temperature that we didn't even know about yesterday. She'd been fussy around lunch time but got over it. We finally figured it out just before she went to bed. Erik ended up giving her Tylenol once since it was hard for her to sleep. She was 102-103 most of the night but was 99.1 in the morning. Not sure what her temperature is now. Though she doesn't enjoy spending all day at home, she's been dealing pretty well. Otherwise, it's a beautiful day. I went to church this morning by myself. Everyone asked where Amelia was. I'm going to run to Michaels & maybe Joann's to pick up a few things. I have a boat load of baker's twine that I have to measure & wrap to mail tomorrow. Erik has ice hockey tonight. So pretty low-key around here. |

Zachary had his PT evaluation on Saturday morning. The woman said that 100% he'd qualify for services. Which is good...and bad. He'll have his speech eval on Thursday but he's great in that department so I'm not worried at all. We have our big meeting on December 3rd to find out what services he'll get and when they'll start (sadly he won't likely start PT until January because of the holidays). We did buy him the "walker" shoes that the PT person recommended and I've been trying some of the things she suggested for him.

Ah, what a lovely day. We spent the morning planting 48 tulip bulbs, then introduced Caroline to the magic of walkie-talkies so spent the afternoon outside while she walked up the street to see how far it worked, hiding somewhere then talking to us on the walkie talkie to try and find her, etc. Steaks and crabcakes for dinner!

We went to an H1N1 shot clinic this morning. It started at 8, we got there at 7:30 and there were probably 150 people on line already. They said people started lining up at 4 a.m. They were only doing kids and infant caregivers. The kids got their shots at a few minutes after 10. The wait was completely outside in 40 degree weather, but at least it wasn't colder or raining, and the kids were amazingly good.
