View Full Version : Another Nap and Daycare question
redhairedgirl August 11th, 2004, 04:33 PM Aiden just went through day number 3 at daycare. He seems to be enjoying it just fine, however, he is NOT napping. Well, he naps, but today, when I received his progress report, it said he slept for 20 minutes ALL day. He's 13 months, and last week here at home would have two naps for easily 1 1/2 hours each.
Will he eventually fall into a napping schedule like he did at home? Or will we have to deal with overtired Aiden all the time?
He had a very strict nap routine here at home, but I don't know if that would help? Like we would read him a story before every nap and bedtime. Do you think I could suggest that?
He seems happy and bubbly, but I'm waiting for the overtired groans to start coming....
Thanks!
Mandy
Dennis August 11th, 2004, 05:29 PM Mandy, is he in a center or an in-home daycare? If he's in a center, what room is he in? When Joe was in the infant room, he hardly napped at all the last couple of months because there was always so much going on. Then when he moved to the toddler room where everyone napped at the same time, he started napping great.
I'm sure a lot of it is the adjustment for Aiden. He's only been there 3 days and still getting used to it. I'd say give it a little more time for him to get into a routine.

redhairedgirl August 11th, 2004, 06:08 PM Thanks Dennis! He's in a center, and yep, he's in the infants room (until he starts walking or turns 16 months) and it's always a hustle of people running around in there.
I just get concerned about the little guy, ya know? :)

Dennis August 11th, 2004, 09:45 PM Mandy, I understand. Frances is doing the same thing now - sometimes she'll nap for close to 2 hours but a lot of days it's less than an hour. It's hard because they are all on different schedules, and I think part of it is they are afraid if they sleep they are going to miss out on something. She was going to move to the toddler room this month but now they are holding her back for another month because she's not quite walking yet.
I'm sure he'll start napping a bit better as he gets used to it, but if he's like Joe was, he won't take really good naps until he gets to the toddler room.

Lette August 12th, 2004, 07:55 AM Mandy, my son is currently 10.5 months and going through the same thing. He takes 2 naps at home, but at daycare, we're lucky if he takes one good one. Yes, too much going on I think. I usually put him down for a quick dinner nap once we get home. (this helps me in giving me time to prepare dinner as well) Of course, my kids have later bed times, so that's why it works.
My daughter did the same thing and then when she moved to the 1's room she began napping well. We're having an issue with her now (she's 2 1/2) , but I think it might be teething related.
Irish Luck August 13th, 2004, 03:38 AM Mandy ~ this is the first week at daycare for my two boys, Dylan slept a total of 40mins the first day, normally he would sleep anywhere from 1-2 hours at home. Now at the end of the week he is up to 1 hour at daycare. As for Paddy the first day he wouldn't go to sleep until they gave him a pillow  and he is doing fine with his sleeps.
Dylan is in the infants room also, which means there is always a baby/infant awake. He is used to it being reasonably quiet when he goes to bed.
Im giving my boys at least a month to adjust to daycare life. Hopefully by then they will be in to a routine.
