Hi, my name is Becca and I'm just trying to get an area set aside for those of us that are going or do reside in this beautiful desert state!!

As some of you can tell, my DH and I are going to be moving to the beautiful state within the next 3 years..Although by the looks of it we may shave that down to 1 1/2-2 yrs.

No children for us yet, but hopefully in the near future..

I can't wait to see some of the AZ ladies coming across!!

Hi Becca! I'm Mandi (DH Michael) and I have 2 little girls, Micayla (21 months) and Melayna (5 months).

I live in Tucson. I moved here from Indiana almost 7 years ago and I love it! There really isn't any other place like it. I miss it when I travel. And you can't beat the winters! :)

I know there are a ton of other people from AZ online. I know of quite a few in the Phoenix area. Hopefully they will post here soon. :)

Hi Mandi!!

My Mom was born in Tucson, and my great-grandma lived there most of her life.. My relatives are all up in Show Low, AZ in the White Mountains.. My Aunt and Uncle lost everything in the Rodeo-Chediski fires from a year ago.. They still choose to live up there and have a new home.. I know when we get our first visit up there it's changed alot but I really cannot wait.. I think at one point and time I did leave a piece of my heart in Arizona..

I'm excited and nervous about moving there. My husband has lived in Scotland his whole life so this is a new adventure to us both.. Even though I come from the states, we'll be able to get to know Arizona together.. We had thought about Tucson but I thought it was farther away from my family in the mountains, so that's why we settled on Phx being our place to be.. It's about 2 hours up the mountains from there.. How far is Tucson from Phx??? Once we are there, I am willing to travel to meet up with friends!!

I can tell ya, I'll miss looking at snow in the winter, but I will NOT miss the cold that comes with it!!

I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner.. I've been on holiday.

Anyway, Tucson is right a little over an hour from Phoenix. Well the South side of Phoenix. It's not a bad drive at all. :)

My DH is a Firefighter so obviously I remember the Rodeo-Chedeski fire. He wasn't doing wildland fires at the time but alot of our friends went up. What a terrible fire that was! Fires like those scare me. So big and out of control.

Edinburgh, Scotland... Wow, I bet it's gorgeous there! I'd love to go there. Sure is a huge difference here in AZ though! Has your DH been here yet? Talk about culture shock. I grew up in Indiana and moved here when I was 20 (about 7 years ago) and I was competely shocked at how different it is! Gotta love the winters though. It's mid January and the temp today is supposed to be close to 80. :)

Oh btw... nice thing about AZ is that the winters are so mild. But if you want to see snow you can always go to the Mountains and see snow for a day and go back home to the warm valley. Definitely a bonus!

We have been out to visit AZ once since we were married. During the Rodeo-Chediski fire.. We landed the same day it was confirmed to my Aunt and Uncle that they lost everything in the fires.. The fires were definately scary.. My parents visited soon after the fires were contained and this extinguished and they said it was absolutely heartbreaking to see how devestated it was.. Nothing is the same.. My Aunt and Uncle lost a beautiful 2 story farmhouse styled house with wrap around porch and all that was left was the concrete slab and burned out wood and melted plastic and broken pottery. It wasn't an easy time but you know, I think it was in it's way, the best time for my husband to meet my family. I think it endeared them to him and vice versa.. He actually really enjoyed the dry heat while we were there(109+ temps) . Yes it will be culture shock for the both of us, him probably more than me, because I have spent many many visits to Arizona. I have always felt it was home away from home.. I know that during the summer, we will probably spend as much time as we can up in the mountains..

I thought Tucson was alot farther away.. That's definately a doable drive to see friends!

Mandi,

Just for curiosity sake.... Could you give me some of the decent areas to live in Tucson.. We're looking at all our job options and I don't want to necessarily rule anything out.. It would help me a great deal :)

Thank you :)

Gosh its been a while since any one has been to this thread. As far as were to live there are a lot of nice area's in Tucson, I guess a lot of it depends on were you'll be working. To break it up though you'l want to avoid the south and west (unless its far west) sides of town, those are the bad neighbor hoods. The South east side (Vail area out by I-10), the East side (Houghton rd. area), the North side (Sabino/Tanque Verde, Sunrise Dr.) The North West side (Marana/Oro Valley) and the far West side ( past Silverbell rd. or Mission rd.) are all nice areas you could consider.
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&countryid=250&addtohistory=&address=&city=Tucson&state=AZ&zipcode=&submit=Get+Map

Marana, Oro Valley and Picture Rocks are all nice area's closer to Phoenix.

I have a girlfriend that lives off of Euclid, is that a semi-decent area?? She used to live in Tucson before her 5 years here in Scotland...

She has a great little fixer upper and her husband should be allowed into the states in the next 6 months... I'd want to be somewhat close to her....

Thanks for your help ladies :)

Yeah, that sort of central. There OK neighborhoods, lots of older homes.

I love the look of some older homes.. Her's appears to be Adobe, it's going to be a cutie when it's all fixed up..

My parents are looking at homes in Vail because they'd like to be close by to family again. I've got family in Show Low, Az. My Mom was actually born in Tucson as was her Mom but Grandma was only in Tucson til she was 18.. She married my grandpa at 16 and had my mom at 18... I really do appreciate the help, I do plan on moving to Arizona permanently but I can't get there til I build up some personal savings so that's why I'll be stopping off in Texas first. Live with my sister, get work to build up my savings and then move on to Az...

Thank you so much for the help :)

Hiya Ladies, it's me Becky under a different name....

Well looks like plans are moving forward.....It's been a tense time in our home but we finally realize I can't hang here any longer.....

Our tentative plan is that in October/november, I come out to the states, secure work and a place to live, vehicle all the things necessary to live while working to pay off 2 CCs from here. It looks like most likely I will be going to Phx at first, because I have family in Phx now so I've got a support system building. Also from my time living in AZ I've got a couple of friends in Phx and they are being angels as well.. This isn't to say Tucson is out of the picture, if I find something better there, I'm going... My husband and I will be living seperately for about 6 months, so that I can establish something in the US, he will fly out see that we will be okay and then we'll do his immigration paper work...

This move is due to some major health issues I have to deal with and being told Move to a warm/hot dry climate will help. So we're doing that.We will hopefully come out of this on top but we are also scared about the seperation time and that we may lose each other. We both do not want to see me hurting anymore.... so we're willing to sacrifice at the moment...

So you decided to move finally huh? I hope that it's a smooth transition for you! I know the seperation would be so hard though. :hug99:

I don't know a ton about Phoenix but if you need some help, just let me know. :)

Looking forward to meeting you in the next year!

Thank you!! It's just good to know there are ladies in the area I can hang out with !! I have no problem doing a 2 hour drive to visit friends in Tucson!!

Ummm, do you know if there is a train that goes between the two places???I have a growing fondness for train travel since living here in the UK..

We are finally working on it....I've just recently suffered a big string of illnesses and we're both tired of it...Hopefully this will work and hubby will see we can have a life outside the UK and this will make his transition alot easier......

No trains between Tucson & Phoenix. :( But the good thing is I'm on the north side of Tucson so it's more like an hour and 15, maybe an hour and a half max. :)

:wavey: I just wanted to stop by and say hello. Dh & I are planning on moving to AZ sometime next year, we're going out there in September to look for a house to buy (new one) and as soon as it's built we're going to make the move. We're looking at either Surprise or Goodyear, dh is leaning towards Goodyear, particularly Estrella Mountain Ranch.

That's what we hear and he's obsessed with their photos on their website! One of the girls I've been talking to on here (Tracey, mamma2jackson) lives there and it doesn't seem like the pictures lie! :) We're looking forward to checking it out. My IL's live in Peoria, Phoenix, & Surprise so we'll have family nearby.

Hi gals! :wavey:

Yup, I'm in EMR in Goodyear and it's GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!! And well worth the $$$ we pay to live here. With all the amenities, it's just shy of being it's own little town. It's a smaller version of Anthem, which is HUGE.

Rochelle, I lived in Peoria for 2.5 years and we have good friends that live in Surprise and El Mirage too.

Love the siggie Tracey, it's too cute!!

I've been concentrating on an apt. in the 85027 zip code. I have a girlfriend that lives in the area that I've known for about 4 years now I think.. She's helping me alot but still very overwhelming.. When your working with a hubby who is second guessing every step and me trying to push us forward and now coming out on my own....Well I can honestly say I'm having a bit of a freak out!!

I'd love to be hired on to an Airline(reservations/behind the scenes) and American West is hiring right now but no way I can get out there....A bit frustrating but hopefully something will work out in the long run!!

Hello again..

I am working towards getting this off the ground in the next few months. Not sure if I will be out September or more like October/November.. Looking for work in the worst way.. Been working with children mainly but cannot do that anymore for health related reason.. I am looking to break into office, admin asst. I do have about 1 years exp. and off and on again with helping my Dad out when needed with his office work..

Working to get a resume up that will hopefully land me something appropriate I can live on.. Willing to work two jobs if I have to(would like to save this as last resort), to get this off the ground.. Anyone know of any good temp. agencies or want ads that I can be researching online. I really want to hit the ground running with a job..

I am starting over from scratch..Completely...
