What sayings/songs/tricks that you learned as a kid for remembering things do you still use? You know, like the song for the months of the year, or counting on your knuckles to figure out how many days are in each month, etc...

I just used one today, that's what made me think of this question.
My grandpa taught me, "A pint's a pound, the world around." In other words, a pint and a pound are both 16 ounces.
I still count my knuckles to figure out how many days are in each month (I can't seem to remember!).
I think there are more, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Not that I don't know, but I've had to show people (40 year olds!!!!!!!!!!) that if you put your left hand up it will make an L so they can tell left from right.

I thought I was the only one who did the knuckle thing!!! Learned that in 1st grade I think...and STILL use it!
Also....any # multiplied by 9, the answer when you add all the digits together will always be 9. That's how you can do a quick check if a calculator isn't around.
EX: 11 x 9 = 99
9 + 9 = 18
1 + 8 = 9

Also, an easy way to tell if you made a transposition in numbers (like with your check book, etc) is to see if the number is divisible by 9. That's not always the case, but it usually works.

What is the days of the month thing?I assume your talking about the knuckle thing and not the rhyme... The knuckle thing works like this.... Think of each knuckle as a mountain and the mos. that fall on those have 31 days. Each dip in between each knuckle is a valley and those mos only have 30 days (with the exception of Feb. of course). You start with the knuckle on your pointer finger which is January (31 days) and keep going. Any mo. that lands in a "valley" has 30 days...and any mo. that lands on the "mountain" or the knuckle  has 31 days! :) When you get to the pinky knuckle, you start back again at the pointer knuckle which will be Aug..and so forth. Phew! Gosh, I hope that made sense!

Hmn...never heard of the knuckle thing. I always use the rhyme, "30 days has september, april, june and november. all the rest have 31, except february, the lonely one"
I also use the "i before e, except after c"
And I am awful with L,R...I have to look at my hands to know left.
And I have a different take on kim's that my dad (of all people) taught me when I had my first visible hangover....
"liquor before beer, in the clear
beer before hard, in the yard"

It is silly! I have no idea what being educated has to do with serving pizzas. There are probably too many different versions to count.

I always remember the order of the colors in a rainbow by the name Roy G Biv.
Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet
I don't know why this has stuck with me. It's not like you need to know this information for anything.

I can't say as I know any of those except "I Before E..." I have never been able to figure out the knuckle thing, so I just remember the months. :)
Here's a good one for the kiddies that a 65 year old Gramma just told me:
Stop Look And Listen
Before You Cross The Street
Use Your Eyes And Then Your Ears
Before You Use Your Feet!!
How cool is THAT?? I've been using it ever since when we go near traffic. :)
