View Full Version : How many ornaments broken?
kim December 8th, 2003, 05:55 PM lose any ornaments yet?
my tree has been up since friday and i've now got a one legged 'clarice'.....i think that's her name, she's rudolph's girlfriend. i have no idea how he managed to get her off the tree, she was up fairly high.
she broke 3 of her legs riding the wide open ranges of the windowsills
sheila December 8th, 2003, 06:43 PM  Our tree isn't even decorated yet, and Maggie has been unravelling some of the ubreakable ornaments we have.
TtownAnne December 8th, 2003, 07:10 PM None at all! We've had great success with the "touch with one finger" rule (and hung the really special things up high) so no damage to report yet.
Wendy December 8th, 2003, 07:14 PM Nothing yet......however she did keep wanting to pull off the "necklaces" off the tree last night as I was putting them on. She was really gentle with the others though. :)
kim December 8th, 2003, 07:53 PM hmmm...i notice you all have girls.. 'gentle' is not a word normally associated with tony!
Barb December 8th, 2003, 08:02 PM None yet. It's amazing how none get broken when you're too lazy to put the tree up. I'm actually dreading it.
Nichole December 8th, 2003, 09:41 PM So far, none. :fingerscr We've only had it up since Saturday night, though. Also, we put it up on a table - he'll have to get up there, first. If that happens, then I'm SOL!
Dennis December 8th, 2003, 11:09 PM Joe hasn't broken any yet. He was very helpful when we were decorating it - he'd take an ornament from the box and say "here mommy!" or "here daddy!" and give it to us. He tried having a couple by himself without much success so he decided this was a much better way to go.
We are having lots of problems with the cat knocking them off, though.
Dennis
Nocona December 9th, 2003, 09:05 AM  It's been up for less than 48 hours and he's yanked a few off. He just had to have Thomas the Train off. Then there was a car, an Eeyore and a truck, but none have been broken. I have bead garland up and he's tried to yank that off a couple times.
Then he tried to put one of his balls (the bouncing kind for the freaks) on the tree and got really pissed when it wouldn't stay. When can I take it down!?
Mandi December 9th, 2003, 09:10 AM Well when we were putting the tree up Micayla broke 2. She keeps yanking them off and dropping them. We said okay, enough is enough, stopped decorating and gated off the room. We're going to buy some of those shatter-proof balls today. Not sure if that'll help though. Micayla can't seem to keep her hands off the tree.
Yesterday when I was cleaning before the girls woke up I heard another bulb break. The cat had climbed into the tree and knocked it off. This is going to be a fun year.
Jeni December 9th, 2003, 09:53 AM Jayden was stepping on the ornaments breaking them while we were putting the tree up  He has to pull all the "tandy tanes" down everyday.
Stacy December 9th, 2003, 10:17 AM My little strange child couldn't care about the tree being up. I even tried to get him to go near it and he wouldn't.
BTW  at Nocona and Matthew's balls comment.
Kate December 9th, 2003, 12:52 PM Cameron hasn't broken any, but I don't have a tree yet... Maybe that is why...
Dawn December 9th, 2003, 01:38 PM Our tree isn't up yet either. We have ALL glass balls that we'll put up higher and our tree will sit on a table. I guess we'll see...it all depends on how she does. We think she'll do good considering she really doesn't get into things...she's a typical & "dainty" girl. We plan on getting our tree sometime this week.
Karri December 9th, 2003, 03:43 PM OMG...Kim I am dying. "Riding the open range.."
Nocona..you sick freak!!!! OMG! balls!!!!!
Tree has been up for over a week now and no casualties. And we even have a wood floor under the tree. Aidan has only taken an ornament off it twice...and they were the non breakable kind.
KristenG December 9th, 2003, 04:23 PM I lost one, but not because of Olivia. Damn hubby just didn't hang it on securely. I left the bottom 1/3 of the tree bare of ornaments, I put bows on instead.
I'm wondering how long it will be before I see pine needles in the diaper though?
benwood December 9th, 2003, 04:24 PM We don't have ours up yet this year and we didn't have one last year due to a big move. I'll let everyone in on a little secret from two years ago, though: My mil gives us ugly ornaments every year. I purposely hung those where Jake and the cat could reach them two years ago.
The ornaments that we want to save from the cat are tied on with green thread. She can't bat them off then. By the time the tree goes out, enough needles have fallen off that we can snip the threads easily.
KellyL December 9th, 2003, 11:24 PM Our tree went up tonight and there's already one broken! This is gonna be a very long couple of weeks.
kim December 10th, 2003, 10:40 AM update: i'm now at 2 broken ornaments :( it was a little snowman with 'tony' written on it.
Cortney December 11th, 2003, 11:26 AM :fingerscr Nothing yet. We're lucky though cause she keeps taking the ornaments within reach off the tree.
Connie1222 December 11th, 2003, 04:14 PM We don't have our tree up yet, but my mom does and Jack has broken 2 ornaments already. Not to mention 2 nativity scene figures (which we were able to fix, thankfully). That was on the first couple of days it was up. Now we've been implementing the "one finger" rule, he doesn't like it but he's been good about it so far!
Kim, Jack is also a wild boy, and we've been very consistent with the rule and it's been working so far!
Amythest December 12th, 2003, 11:17 AM We put ours up last weekend with just the lights on it and left it like that for a few days. Now it is fully decorated and *knock on wood* he hasn't really bothered much with the tree at all. One ornament got broken, but it wasn't on the tree yet. I put all the breakables up high and the non-breakables down bottom.
The cutest thing is whenever he sees the tree and the lights aren't on he says "on, on, on" until we turn the lights on .
Faye December 12th, 2003, 01:16 PM Emily only likes the balls. She will take those down and pull the hooks out :) I just put them up in the box when it happens. I don't bother to put them back on the tree.
Mom2Alex December 18th, 2003, 09:44 AM Not a one. We didn't put any ornaments on the bottom two rows and when she goes near the tree, we say "no thank you" much like we have for anything else she's not supposed to touch, and she's stayed away from it. :)
Jacqui
Dawn December 18th, 2003, 09:12 PM Well, we went and got our tree...put it up 2 days ago. Alexia hardly touches it!!! I should really be knocking on wood here....but the glass balls are higher and there are a couple unbreakables that are within her reach...and some of the gold beads that I put on like garland is in her reach too....and so far so good! :)
Denise December 20th, 2003, 09:16 PM I think he is too scared to touch it when its lit...If the lights arent turned on he ignores the tree!
Nocona December 21st, 2003, 03:42 PM We're up to one now
kim December 21st, 2003, 03:47 PM we're up to 3 now......clarice the reindeer has NO legs now, and the santa sitting on the vw bus is missing an arm (that was part of an 'ugly ornament' exchange, hence tony's access to it  )
Kate December 23rd, 2003, 02:15 PM My mil gives us ugly ornaments every year. I purposely hung those where Jake and the cat could reach them two years ago.
Do you think I can get away with putting all of the ugly Christopher Radko ornaments my MIL gives us on the bottom. DH likes them, but I HATE them!!!
mama2jackson December 23rd, 2003, 05:01 PM We have had our tree up since the day after Thanksgiving and no broken ornaments *knock on wood!!!* Jackson doesn't really seem interested unless the lights are on and then he's just amazed by them flashing at him . I didn't even put that many breakable ones on there and if they are breakable, they are at the top of the tree anyways. He has pulled a few off and wants to eat them, but that's about it!
camprunner December 23rd, 2003, 06:00 PM I've broken the only ornament so far. Ofcourse we just put it up today and it is in a room we don't generally allow her in unless we have company and when we walk in the door but we walk her straight through to "her room".
Daniroo December 23rd, 2003, 06:01 PM So far... 1... so Karissa put them all up higher so Connor couldn't get to them...
Lora December 23rd, 2003, 06:27 PM No broken ornaments but the bottom of my tree is now naked! Christopher has been great about not touching but Patrick is my problem. I am getting tired of removing him from under the tree. This tree may come down on Friday!!!
