For you working moms and dads...

How long is your lunch time?

What do you typically do?
Eat lunch? Read? Work? Exercise? Shop?

We have flex time here, meaning that if I work 8:30-5, I can take 30 minutes for lunch. But if I work 8-5, I can take 60 minutes. Actually, more often than not, I end up eating while working but I take lots of little breaks during the day.

I'm jealous of you, Lette. We have absolutely nothing except a Home Depot within 15 minutes of here. And our lunch choices are limited, too.

I get an hour lunch break. Some days I do the grocery shopping. It's so much easier to go by myself!! Sometimes I go to the gym and exercise for half an hour. Sometimes I go to the library and read a book.

I almost never actually eat lunch on my lunch break. What a waste of a precious hour of free time!

I get an hour from 12 to 1 PM.

Yup, I run errands almost every day. We have a pretty good workout room too and before the kids came along I was in there almost everyday. Yes, we have lockers and showers too.

Anyway, I can get so much done at lunch without the kids and I've been pushing off the working out. I go to the mall, Kohl's, Target, Walmart, etc. I also do dry good food shopping too! Everything is convenient and I can get there in 5 minutes or less.

Today I decided to go on the treadmill for 20 minutes. Then I ran out to Target for a quick return, stopped at the post office and got gas on the way back.

I never eat lunch till I'm working at my desk after 1 PM... like right now. :)

 I usually eat at my desk after my lunch hour.

I'm very lucky in that I have flexibility and no one monitors my lunch hours. I don't punch a time clock. My lunch hour is time for me to shop (for me) or run errands. I don't like that I have so little time that I have to run errands at lunch but its the way of my world. I would like to have the discipline to exercise, but...."what a waste of a precious house of free time"!

No one monitors us either. I guess, technically, I have an hour, but if I got out, I'm not afraid to take 1 1/2 hours + sometimes. I work 7-5 every day (then some a lot of times) and I am salary, so what the heck.

I go to Target, get gas, go out to eat sometimes with a girl I work with or a friend of mine, the boys come meet me for lunch about once a week. The rest of the time, I either run out and grab something and bring it back to eat (after my hour's up :) ) or I bring something and play online :)

For you working moms and dads...

How long is your lunch time? We get an hour for lunch.

What do you typically do? Eat lunch? Read? Work? Exercise? Shop? I always eat lunch with the same 3 co-workers every day. We eat lunch in our cafeteria every day and on Fridays we usually go to the diner or the pizza place in the Citi Corp. building. There is no place to shop where I work (in Long Island City), it's a very industrial area. There is a gym a block away, but I don't belong to it (or any gym for that matter!).

Lunch time is usually an hour, but I don't always use the whole 60 minutes. Sometimes I'll run to the store so I don't have to do it on the way home, but more often than not I will go out, pick up lunch, and bring it back to work to eat at my desk. I have to be here from 8-5 every day, no matter how short I cut my lunch, so I end up getting 3-4 hours of overtime a week by doing this. There's nowhere around here to go, so I might as well get the OT.

We don't have monitored lunches so we pretty much work whatever schedule. On a typical day, I eat lunch at my desk and do whatever. Once in a while we'll go out to lunch but I don't like going out because
1) I will eat too much and get really sleepy and I'm just not productive in the afternoon
2) takes too much time- a lunch out will take at least 1.5 hours because I don't like to rush if I'm out.

I hardly ever run errands during lunch. I'd rather do them when I get out of work.

I wish I could run errands, but I'm in downtown Phoenix and there's nothing other than tall office buildings and courthouses here. I would LOVE to do my grocery shopping too, but then again I'm 50 minutes from home, so that wouldn't work

I usually take an hour lunch (I am salary so it's doesn't matter) with the girls here in the office. I sooooooooooo wish we had a workout room or something in the building, but no such luck.

If I am not in court then I usually just end up eating here in the office. Sometimes I go get out and run an errand or two but usually I eat here for lunch then head out late afternoon to run an errand if I have some down time.

I get an hour for lunch, although no one monitors it - I don't have to check in with anyone. I work in downtown Dallas, so there aren't a lot of places here that I can run errands. And I don't move my car if I can help it - that would mean paying for parking twice. So I usually eat lunch somewhere in the underground, that I can walk to, work, or go work out - I've recently found a fitness center in the building across the street, so I'll probably be doing that most days. :)

My lunch is totally flexible. I don't have a set plan. Sometimes I eat with some coworkers, sometimes I run errands, and sometimes I just eat at my desk.

I get 45 mins but no one monitors so it I usually take longer and run errands. If I eat it is when I get back from lunch.

I work downtown, so unless my errand involves the mall, I don't usually run errands. I try to get out for lunch at least 3 days a week or so. I find I get resentful if I eat at my desk every day. I think we technically get 45 minutes, but I'm not sure and no one monitors it.

We get an hour for lunch. I wish it was 1/2 hour so we could leave earlier. I usually use that time to get caught up on OUAL and surf. I spend my pumping time reading the newspaper and magazines/books. By the end of the day I'm so sick of reading! (I'm an editor.) Plus, with my hour-long commute, the last thing I want to do is run errands during lunch, so I usually stick around the office.

I'm completely flexible. 3 or 4 days a week I'll go to the gym and work out at lunch time. Once in awhile I'll go out to lunch. Other days I will just eat at my desk. When I work out I just eat my lunch at my desk afterwards.

I'm entitled to an hour lunch but I rarely take it. I bring my lunch almost everyday so I just eat my desk. If I need to go out for something to eat, I get it and bring it back. I work in a small town with not to much around in the way of getting errands done plus I'm suppose to start at 8 but trying to get three kids out the door in the morning is difficult so I'm not always on time. By not taking a lunch I more than make up for the 15 minutes I'm late and the bosses don't have a problem with it.
