After a recent u/s, it looks like my 6mo DD Katie might have one. Anyone else? Just wondering what might be in store for us...

Sheila, I saw this when you first posted it, and didn't post, because I know nothing about it, I'm sorry. For those others who may be like me, can you tell us what it's about? If you don't mind, that is. If you don't want to, I totally understand!

Sure... I just noticed this post was here.

Apparently a urethral duplication is no big deal in & of itself, but it is another indicator that kidney reflux may be a problem. Lots of adults have it and never know about it.

Katie's left kidney has an extra lobe in it, which has an extra ureter going from her kidney to her bladder. If they are both working properly, it would mean nothing other than that she has twin turbo action on one side. But there is a chance that the "extra" one could be attached oddly to the bladder. I'm not sure what happens then.

I looked for a picture, but they were either u/s pictures which didn't show it well, or one drawing that didn't explain it. There was also a picture of an actual set of kidneys & bladder, but ick.

You should talk to Amanda (schwanda)- she's a urology resident, and pediatric urology is her area of interest. I don't know much about it myself- but I'll be thinking good thoughts for you that it's nothing to worry about!
