Well, well, the silly season is just about over, and hopefully we all made out like bandits this year. However, even amongst the treasure, there's often a little trash... What crazy, strange, bizarre, ugly, tacky, odd or just downright inappropriate gifts did your loved ones stick YOU with this year - or any other year for that matter!! Let's share the glory of Our Most Memorable And Least Appreciated Gifts.

MIL strikes again!
She gave me this:

Nope, there's nothing wrong with it at all. It's quite lovely IMO. The thing is - I liked it better the first time I got it. She gave it to me for my birthday in September, and I accidently left it at her house. I keep forgetting to ask for it back - no matter now, because she just wrapped it up and gave it to me for Christmas! Ah, there's no one in the world quite like my wacky MIL!

She gave DH chocolates. They were in date. We checked - because the last two boxes of chocolates she gave out were w-a-a-a-y out of date. These ones can't have even been on the bargain racks, they had months before the expiration date was due. Wonders will never cease!

My aunt gave me (for the THIRD TIME) the Jim Hensen's Muppets coffee table book. I also got it for my 30th birthday and the previous Christmas. I'm just wondering how many copies she still has at home. It was a nice gift-- the first time around! :read:

Poor dh got all the bad gifts this year. First, you need to understand that we are anti-knick knack. There are NO knick knacks on display in our house. None.

MIL gave him a singing coca cola piggy bank.
FIL gave him a desktop bowling set. Yes, desktop bowling. Little tiny ball and pins on a wooden alley.

LOL!

Sarahk72, your aunt sounds like a character! At least it's a nice book to get three copies of  Have you seen BookCrossing.com - if you haven't the heart to sell your extra copies, and don't know anyone to give it to, I like the BookCrossing concept of leaving the book for strangers to pick up, and register on the website. I keep meaning to do it myself!

Benwood, I cracked up when I read "singing coca cola piggy bank". You just don't see those words in the same phrase often enough! Obviously your inlaws are harbouring the illusion that you lack knick knacks by accident, not design.

Honestly! What are some people thinking when they do their Christmas shopping?!

My GMIL (usually a woman with good taste) got me a black sweatshirt with a red fooler turtleneck attached (colours are ok)....with a cutesy Christmas-themed dog picture on the front. HUH? Not only do I rarely wear sweatshirts, but I'm basically limited to wearing this thing AT Christmas.

My dh got me something I really really really wanted this year: a Canon Rebel 2000 SLR camera! :D But, because it was late in being shipped, and wasn't here on Xmas, he also got me dog-head slippers. Again, HUH? They were too small, so I took them back & got normal slippers.

My MIL is a complete work of art.... "Santa" gave me a grandfather clock.... WTH? Granted it a super nice gift but "Santa" gave DH a surround sound system and BIL a curio cabinet ( for his WW2 collectibles) and a play station 2. The worst thing is that she asked me what to get DH ( surround sound) and asked DH what I wanted ( digi cam). How she heard grandfather clock out of digi cam, I will never know.
We honestly do not have room for it in my house, we live in a 3 bedroom 1 bath house and there is no room in our living room and it does not match my furniture. She knows that I am going to redecorate the living room ( animal print) this year but do you see a grandfather clock in there? They continually ask when they can come over to see it set up. Oops guess I will be lying and darn it the glass broke on it and we had to return it. Darn it there were not any pretty ones that were similar left. :dude:

See now these people are spending money just to spend money. What's wrong with good old fashioned cash?! MIL got 2 of her grandkids a stuffed sheepdog that sings Only You. We were still at her house, had never played it and I told DH it was going to the donation bin. 3 days later at SIL's house, she said the same thing and it was her mom that bought it!!! IMO why spend money you don't have just to spend it? On CRAP??? That no one appreciates. Not even the donation bin people who will probably donate it to the local landfill.

My most hated cousin gave me a previously-opened CD of "tatu" http://www.super-babies.com/smiliepages/grnsick.gif

I didn't give him or his wife anything because I don't like them so I was really uncomfortable when they gave that to us. http://www.super-babies.com/smiliepages/goodevil_vi.gif I was torn between giving it back with a nice "no thanks" or keeping it to avoid those family eyes http://www.super-babies.com/smiliepages/EEK13.GIF
