After much consideration, we have decided to limit the number of posts non-subscribers can make on OUAL to 25. We will also be limiting registered users to a one month trial period. After that number/time, these users will be able to see only what an unregistered guest sees, and will only be able to post in the "The Visitor' Center" area for questions.
This limit will be put into place on July 15, 2004, and will affect all current and future registered users.
We believe that 25 posts is enough to allow users to get a sense of the community we have here and make a decision regarding becoming a subscribed member. For those who choose not to, you will still be able to access some of the information in the community, but you will be unable to participate.
We hope that this change offers our subscribers a greater sense of community through a feeling of increased security, freedom and value.

So does this mean that current "registered but not subscribed" users who already have over 25 posts will be cut off from future posts?
Just a question, not a judgement!! :)

I think that is fair.

Sounds more than fair to me. I mean they can still look around the site and not post. I think that by 25 posts most people should be able to tell if OUAL is for them or not.

what's to stop someone from re-registering under a different name? do you check ip's?
btw: i think it's a great idea  considering how many 'open' forums we currently have.

We do check IPs... the registration IP is logged, and we have some files that collect IPs when people are online. If a particular user starts to seem familiar, then we'll do something about it.
Overall, I would hope that people have better things to do with their time than re-register once a month just to avoid paying a little over $2/month, though.

Do you accept money orders? My husband would consider this to be "frivolous" sp? and therefore unnecessary. So I'll just do it sometime when I have an extra $25.

P.S. This will happen later today. I am just trying to set up a system where I can target announcements to people based on usergroups etc so they know why they can no longer post!
