View Full Version : Can they do this?

I got a QA report at work and was told I took too many bathroom breaks. I told my boss I'm pregnant, so there's no issue with that anymore.

What I want to know is: Are they legally allowed to make a complaint about that?

:dunno: Probably as it could make you look like you are slacking. Is it an issue since you told your boss you are PG? They may have thought you were just looking to get out of work because (other than PG women) most people don't use the bathroom very often.

We monitor our employee's bathroom breaks, I am a manager in a call center so we're very stringent about how many people are "logged" in and able to receive calls so if someone takes too many breaks they are spoken to about it. HOWEVER, if they have medical documentation (or in your case pregnancy) that is taken into consideration and we never take disciplinary action based on that. If they provide no documentation though we do.

Yes, I think they can do that...unless there is a medical reason (like pregnancy or kidney problems, or whatever.)

Yeah, they can, and if your productivity is in question, it could be a red flag.. BUT the fact you are pregnant sorta negates all that.. now that they know, I assume it wont be an issue.

Darn. I was hoping they wouldn't have been allowed to do that. Oh well. To his credit, my supervisor asked if there was a medical reason. Now that he knows, I'm sure it won't be a problem. He's a reasonable man.

Thanks everybody.

IMO, that is just ridiculous. I'm not pg, I have no med. condition that I know of, but I go to the bathroom CONSTANTLY!!! I drink a ton of water all day, and seriously probably go to the bathroom like 10+ times per day! Some days I swear I feel like I spend all day in there, when I realize I go to the bathroom more than once per hour, I stop drinking anything. Noone's said anything to me. I'm not sure anyone really notices - I'm sure they do though. I'm not logged into anything and I have other reasons I need to leave my desk on a regular basis, so I'm not sure how they could effectively monitor my bathroom breaks unless they have me sign in every time I enter the bathroom.
