tell me about your home based business! what are some of the problems you've encountered running it?

Hi Kristy! :wavey:

My husband and I have a home-based business. I'm in Internet Marketing (I consult for a company in Ohio and do marketing for our business as well). My husband is a web developer/programmer. We run several websites that we started while still in college.

Problems that we encountered??? Too many to name. :lol: Don't get me wrong, I love my job and the fact that I work from home, but it can be a pain as well. I guess the biggest problem for us was going from the employee to owner mentality. Another constant battle is motivation... there are so many distractions when you work from home, so it can be a battle to keep yourself motivated to get things done and move forward. Plus, since we both work from home, we're together a-l-l the time (this is both good and bad :lol: )

Subscribing. :) I would like a home-based graphic design business. I've done some research and talked to our city planner, but I'm at the point where I probably need to consult a tax professional because I'd like to start my business on a part-time basis and I'm not sure where that puts me.

My DH and I have a contracting company and the office is in our home, he does all the ground work, I run the office..I'll start with saying I quit at least once a week and he fires me at least once a week :lol: it has become a ritual..

The Pros..I can work at 2 am I can work in my pjs, and not worry about my hair or makeup..I am also able to be home with Char (I worked when the other kids were young) i can take long breaks (sometimes all day :) ) It's easy for us to arrange to have the same vacation days..

The Cons..motivation is a big one, on the other hand you can tend to work too much (when is quitting time) also having your own business brings the worries of taxes, payroll etc..and I hate tax time..Now that Char is walking (well running) it's harder to get anything done!!

I also keep the books for a non profit club,and manage all of our properties( i hate the rentals)

It got to be hard for me to balance it all and after I had Char I started having health problems and just couldn't do it..So now we have a part time girl in the office and my sister comes in to help with the house and Char when I need it..
