What do you want to do?
Go back to your old job/industry?
Try something new?
Strike out on your own and do something WAHM?

I have no idea, honestly. I was a legal secretary before, but when I go back to work it would only be part time while kids are in school, and the legal field around here is not too understanding of that. But that's all I know how to do (other than retail or something like that) so I just don't know.

I'm thinking about going back to school first and then making a career change. I want to teach...I think that would be a good compromise since I would be around afer school, during school vacations, and in the summer...

I may actually start taking classes this fall, I love staying home, but I can't picture not having a career at all...maybe it is b/c I am on the younger side, and wasn't fully established in a career when I left to become a SAHM :dunno:

I worked at the YMCA and I plan on volunteering there starting in the fall, just to keep my contacts there.

I would like to start some kind of scrapbooking related business though. I've just got to muster up my courage! :errr:

I would love to figure a business that I can by a WAHM but for now I am thinking of just picking up a couple of casual shifts in a hospital ( I am an RN) so I can both be home with Emma during the day as well as keep my licence active.

I never really worked...So I don't know what I will do. I might go finish my certification (I graduated from college, but since it was a dual enrollment thing I never actually finished my teacher certification, I need to do my student teaching then take the 2 post student teaching classes) and become a teacher...I'm also really interesting in becoming a CNM (certified nurse midwife), and a professional chef. so I'm all over the place...no matter how you look at it though I have to go back to school to do any of it!

This is me, too, exactly. I'm really, really wanting to stay home for good, but DH is pretty much totally against it :( so I'm trying to think of something else I can do part-time while Katie is in school, no summers, and enough vacation/sick time to take care of her when she's sick and help in her classroom occasionally. So, basically, I don't want to work.

I've thought about doing some freelance writing from home, but that's tough to make money at unless you're in NYC, from what I understand. I've also thought about trying to come up with some other sort of WAH business, but I draw a blank on ideas. One thing I would consider is going back to school briefly for some photography classes and attempting to be a photographer. It's probably a little easier to make money at than writing, but not a whole lot.

I totally know how you feel! I was scared to death of starting my little sewing business.... but I fortunately had wonderful feedback from my first "customer", SarahK, and after that, well, things just kind of had a ripple effect and now I'm so booked that I'm wondering how I'm going to do it all. I wouldn't trade it for the world, though!

I originally wasn't sure about going back to work, but like I said, I always wanted to do sewing (or some other artform I enjoyed) I was just scared of making the leap. Now I'm doing what I LOVE to do, I make my own hours, my own policies, etc, etc, and this is truly what I think I was meant to do (well, aside from being a Mom and wife).

If I ever go back to work, honestly...I'm really not sure. I can always find a job as an executive assistant and work for a CEO or VP and oversee the office personnel like I did prior. The money will be great....But, is that what I would want to do after being at home for so long? I also want to be home when my kids get home from school.

I want alot of my time to be devoted to being involved in the kids schooling and education. I want to volunteer to go to field trips and be on the PTA board, etc. Gosh, I so never thought I would be a mother like this (as my mom totally wasn't), but now that I'm a mother of almost 2, I can't see me NOT doing that. I know there's no pay involved there, but to me that will sorta be like 'going back to work, PT (without pay, but with 100% involvement)', no?

As far as $$ is concerned, yea it would be nice to make some nice extra money and I'm possibly thinking of practicing calligraphy again. I use to be really good at it & enjoyed it. Then maybe start a little side thing where I can do wedding invites..things like that. The money will be decent....and it'll be something. :) DH wants me to do something with my writing poems...like personalized poems or something like that. There are lots of businesses on the internet who do personalized poems. But I'm not sure about that...

I would like to go back to work PT, since DH has been giving me the guilt trip for months now, but trying to find anything decent around here is nearly impossible. I would LOVE to go back to being a Paramedic, but I would also love to go to Photgography school.

Once all of our children are in school I will probably go back to teaching. The Indian Reservation 20 miles away always needs teachers even subbing I can make $75 a day but since there is no childcare around here it will have to wait until all my kids are in school. So probably at least 10 years yet!

I'd like to become a professional web designer and work out of my home. That way, I can have the best of both worlds. I'm working on getting it started as we speak!

I would want to do something part-time so I can be home when the kids get home from school. There's a possibility that we'll home school for elementary school, so I'm obviously not going back to work for a long time if that happens.

One thing I'd like to try is some freelance computer stuff - working with people or small businesses on various computer problems. Since I'd be a consultant, I'd be able to make my own hours so I could be home to get the kids from school (or wait for them to get off the bus or meet them at the bus stop). There's a website called www.rentageek.com (http://www.rentageek.com) where I plan on signing up if it still exists when I have schoolage children. That will get my name out there. I almost signed up when I left my old job, and I probably would have if I hadn't gotten another job within three weeks.

I'd like to pick up more wedding planning/coordination jobs. I had a wedding yesterday, but they do take me away a lot, so I don't pick up too many. Dh is returning to school soon and I have made some more preschool/childcare arrangements for this fall, so I'd like to just step up business in general since we'll be mostly living on loans at that point!

When my children are old enough to be in school fulltime, I plan to go back to teaching. That way I am still home with them almost the whole time they are home.

Right now I"m working on my nursing degree, but if I had to go back to work say tomorrow, I'd get a job as a special education Teacher's Asst, that's what I did before. I LOVED that job. I'd either want to work in Life Skills, Severe and Profound, or an Autism class.

Not really sure yet. DH and I agreed that after the girls are in school, I'll do something, but he said even if I go back to school, that counts. :woo: I'd love to be a perpetual student!! The cool thing is that my dad was recently declared a disabled vet (he has tinnitus after 35+ years working on an air crew in the USAF), so if/when I do return to school, we only have to pay my books and fees.

I've considered teaching, but I hear about so many teachers who leave the profession because of all the administrative BS...I worry about that. Ideally, I'd like a job where I didn't go to work until the kids left for school, was home when they got home, and allowed me pretty much unlimited time off so I could be a room mother and go on field trips. Sounds pretty impossible, but my mom managed it...she worked from 10-2 at a locally owned business, then as us kids got older, she changed fields.

Thankfully, I have 5 years to give it some thought!

I would love to help run a bed and breakfast someday! My degree is in interior design and that's the only kind of work I know how to do. I've designed both homes and offices and I really have no desire to go back to either. Since my degree is pretty broad there are lots of other jobs that I could do and still have a hand in design.
I wouldn't mind doing a consulting business where I could set my own hours though.
