View Full Version : The great name debate
Jeni June 3rd, 2004, 10:42 AM Okay for those of you that know me, or visit my journal, you know I have a son Jayden Matthew. He is named after my ex H his middle name is Jay, and his middle name is after a friend that died very young. I believe that the first name should be unique, and the middle after someone. Anyway, I am pg with my second son, (with a different father) and he thinks that since I got to name Jayden that he should get to name this one. I do not agree, I think I get SOME say. Anyway, every name I throw out, he doesn't like. He wants something more "traditional" I think. Here are some things I have said
Kraven (he hates it)\
Brady (no, doesn't sound good w/Jayden)
Colin (no)
BTW, the middle name with all of these would be Michael after him.
His suggestions are:
Michael Rae III ( I REALLY don't like this, and he REALLY wants to name him after himself)
Ashton Michael (I kind of like this)
Anne June 3rd, 2004, 11:09 AM I say no to Kraven too - as a noun, craven means Characterized by abject fear; cowardly, a coward.
Brooke June 3rd, 2004, 11:58 AM Out of all of them, I like Ashton Michael or Colin.
kim June 3rd, 2004, 12:00 PM i like brady (that was my #1 boy name) and think it goes fine with jayden!
Jeni June 3rd, 2004, 12:42 PM Anyone have anything they think we could agree on? I told him if we name him III, I'm calling him Trey but he hates that too:( I told him it didn't matter, I would call him that anyway  I don't want to not like my kids name, ya know?
magoo June 3rd, 2004, 01:14 PM I like Colin.
Kraven makes me think of cigarettes.
Brooke June 3rd, 2004, 02:09 PM What about
Ethan
Owen
Ian
Seth
Carson
Camden
Trevor (my #2 choice)
Landon (my favorite)
Victor
I think Michael goes well as a middle name with almost any first name.
Nichole June 3rd, 2004, 02:32 PM What about the both of you each (separately) making a big ol' list of names you like and then see if you have any matches?
Jeni June 3rd, 2004, 02:42 PM Oh Nichole, that's a good idea. Last night, he said "what do you think of Tracey?" I said "for a boy:eek:" Um I don't think so. I guess that was his uncles name that died.
Karri June 3rd, 2004, 02:47 PM could you convince him to like Trey if you tell him that its in honor of this friend, Tracey?
Jeni June 3rd, 2004, 03:01 PM Karri, I really doubt it.
Jeni June 3rd, 2004, 03:10 PM I should make a list of the NO names because of other people or whatever.
Cayden (or anything close to it, that's my EXH's GF sons name)
David (ex's name)
Ray
Ken
Shawn
Josh
Jason
Adam
Eric
Justin
Nathan
Ross
Clayton
Christopher/Chris
Brandon
Braydon
Jeremy
John
I'm sure there is more. I like Lucas and Carson, I'll ask him tonight
Brooke June 3rd, 2004, 03:20 PM Oh Nichole, that's a good idea. Last night, he said "what do you think of Tracey?" I said "for a boy:eek:" Um I don't think so. I guess that was his uncles name that died.
I know 2 male Tracy's. One is my aunt's ex, who ran out on her and when their baby was not even a year old to date a really old stripper and now does everything he can to avoid child support.
The other is my neighbor, who is nice enough, I guess. But he's a little weird.
Jeni June 3rd, 2004, 03:26 PM I've heard Tracy as a man's name, it just reminds me of someone who beats their wife  Sorry if you know one, that's just what I think of. Oh, I did like Tristan, and him and my BF said it sounded like Triscut  and I like Alexander, we'll see what negative things he says about these.
Brownie June 3rd, 2004, 04:44 PM Just another suggestion: I've also heard Trip as a name for III (instead of Trey).
Brandi June 3rd, 2004, 09:22 PM I like Ashton Michael!
I don't like Kraven - sorry!
TxTeacher June 3rd, 2004, 11:49 PM Out of all of them, I like Ashton Michael or Colin.
Same here. I really dislike Kraven and Brady. :thumbsdow
AmyLynn June 3rd, 2004, 11:56 PM I like the suggestion of each of you making a list.
Jeni June 4th, 2004, 08:39 AM Well, I suggested us each making a list and he thought that was a good idea, so we will do that some time. I suggested
Lucas
Carson
Alexander
Lucas is the only one he was like "maybe" Why are men so difficult, just let me name him
bunybomb June 4th, 2004, 12:28 PM I'm partial to Alexander. We chose it because we didn't know any other boys or men with that traditional name.
I like Ashton Michael, but if DH insists in him being the III, I think Trey is a great nickname....keep working on him. :angrywife
Jeni June 4th, 2004, 12:43 PM I'm trying:lol: I think it will be Ashton Michael, because that's all we can seem to agree on.
Cazzle June 5th, 2004, 01:41 AM Ashton Michael is really, really nice. I don't like Kraven for the reason Anne gave - it's the same as naming your son Koward. I like Brady, and similarly I like Grady, but overall I think Ashton Michael is the nicest of them all.
Barb June 5th, 2004, 07:50 AM I like Ashton Michael. I think Lucas is nice too. I'm sorry, I can't vote for Colin because that's on my list for my baby#2. Too bad I won't know what I've having for awhile, because if it's a girl you can have Colin. (I'm kidding, of course. If Colin is all you both can agree on then we'll just both have boys named Colin. :) )
Karly June 5th, 2004, 09:50 PM What about Trace, like as in Trace Adkins (the country music singer)? It's similar to both Tracey and Trey.
:dunno:
Bev June 5th, 2004, 09:52 PM Just another suggestion: I've also heard Trip as a name for III (instead of Trey).
I much prefer Trip/Tripp to Trey. Even though Trip might remind one of being clumsy, Trey makes me think of tray. It just seems more interesting.
How about Grayson? I think Grayson Michael sounds nice, and it isn't that common a name. :)
Hilary June 5th, 2004, 11:12 PM I like Ashton a lot too. I like Lucas too. That was on our list for boy's names.
Jeni June 10th, 2004, 03:09 PM Okay, a few more to add to my list I haven't talked to him more about it yet though, and we haven't made our "lists" What do you think about
Benjamen Michael
Bryceson Michael
Brandi June 10th, 2004, 04:45 PM I like Benjamin Michael a lot. But, I don't care for Bryceson Michael. Sorry! Maybe it's the spelling that bothers me.
Bev June 10th, 2004, 05:36 PM The spelling bothers me too. I like Bryson better.
Jeni June 11th, 2004, 08:13 AM Well, he said no to both of those anyway. Bryceson was a no, because he has a friend with a little boy named Bryce, and Benjamen he said "that name goes back to like 1800, I don't want my son to have that common of a name" I said "I thought you like traditional names" Then he said "no, I want him to have my name if it's going to be traditional" I'm NEVER going to win. He did say "I came up with Ashton didn't I?" so, I think as long as he thinks he came up with it, that may work.
AmyJ June 24th, 2004, 02:00 AM What about Trace, like as in Trace Adkins (the country music singer)? It's similar to both Tracey and Trey.
:dunno:
This is exactly what I was going to suggest!
Nadine June 24th, 2004, 02:38 AM I like Benjamn but of course we chose that name for our son. You could abbreviate it to Ben.
But Ashton sounds very nice.
Can you hand him a baby name book and tell him to wrote down the names he likes? And then compare and decide on names you agree on? We did that with Shoham. We ended up with a list of 5 names that were OK for both of us. Then we gradually narowed it down until we decided on Shoham.
Jeni June 24th, 2004, 11:43 AM Nadine, that's what we are supposed to do. He's working 12+hr days right now, so we really don't talk about it a whole lot. Maybe this weekend. I need to start writing my suggestions down, before I forget.
Mandi June 25th, 2004, 12:20 PM Michael and I had a hard time agreeing on names too. What we did was go through the book and put down names that we both thought were okay. Then we both took that list seperately and put our top 5. Out of that we saw which ones matched and went from there. :)
