I was reading a thread in th SAHM forum that was a poll to see how much DH makes for the SAHM's. So I was wondering what the average income is for our working mom's or dual income families.

So I'm posting this poll asking what is your total household income (you & DH). I think it's interesting to know how much $$ we are making by choosing to go back to the working world.

So vote & share you personal financial information!!! (ha ha)

What amazes me is how much money we make and we still never seem to have any.

Ditto, Dennis!!

We make just over the 80K mark, jointly.

Same with us. But we are bad impulse spenders so that's where ours goes and that's how we ended up with alot of debt. I wish I could cut down. I'm trying...I'm doing really well with our grocery costs. And I'm doing really well with telling DH he can't have the weed whacker and all the attachments that he wants.

Gross income, just over $100,000, jointly. Of course, for us, daycare for one is about $12,000, so Dennis, I know why you seem like you don't have any money with two in daycare!

For us, I enjoy working, and it isn't primarily for the money, although the money is certainly nice (even with daycare, we are still better off financially with two working than with one). I just didn't like being at home with a baby all day, and my husband, who makes less than me, went stir crazy during his 3 months off. No way he could have stayed home.

We still put a lot in retirement, but aren't putting nearly as much into other savings post-baby as we were pre-baby.

Brooke, we're the same way. We don't buy much big stuff, but all the little stuff really adds up.

We pay $2,000 a month for daycare. It's worth every penny, but I really can't wait until they start school :)

It all comes down to the cost of living where you live.. We could have a MUCH bigger house, if we moved a few blocks away, but we love our neighborhood so its worth it. Plus the schools are all 4 :star: schools, down the road, that is NOT the case...

We make $70,000 a year together. Which is fairly good.... but we still never have enough $$. Maybe because we love to spend it and have nice things!

And holy crap!!! $12k a year for daycare!!! $2000 a month!!!

We pay $5460.00 a year for our one child for daycare. I feel so much better about my daycare costs now!!

And your right Sherry it does come down to the cost of living in your area.

We make just under 80K together and it's no where near enough. But we live in NYC and it's just so expensive here. My mom thinks we're crazy for spending $900 a month on daycare because she says her co-worker spends about $100 a week. I'm scared to think what kind of daycare that kid is in.

you can't judge a daycare by cost. i pay $150 a week for tony (in-home) and she's great.

anyway, we make just over $100k combined and once #2 gets here we will be really struggling despite having no debt other than the house and car.
it is very expensive where we live.

You're right Kim. I didn't mean to offend anyone. It's just that here in NYC, childcare is so expensive and I know there are a lot of mediocre daycare centers I could send Jack to for a lot less.

I feel lucky too. We pay $150/wk for Alex fulltime (in home) and for Dylan it's about $300.00 a month for after school or off-track times.

We make great money and we spend when we want. The bills are paid first and then we tend to spend too much. We do have credit card debt too, so we shouldn't be so impulsive.

Where I live, avg rate for child care is 190-230 a week, but just down the road its only about 110 a week... We are stuggling as we built a new house, then found out we were prego with # 4, so money is tight, but we are working hard at getting our debt down, eventually we will have extra money for things we would like to have.... but right now, its just not happening. Plus once the kids are all in school, that will make a huge difference... Then again, soon we will have to be buying cars for the kids

Back 6 years ago, before we got married, we thought we were hot stuff because we broke the 100K mark then we realized that where we live, that's about the bare minimum for couples to live on. Somehow after we got married, our operating expenses also increased so we've had to make sure that our income covered our increasing costs. I think we're making enough- We're comfortable- but what gets annoying is how much our financial planner takes out of our checks for monthly savings. (pain is good though, I keep getting told- I'm just waiting to enjoy the payoff I guess). We're trying to save money to for our kid/s to go to private or Montessori school (no relief in sight after the daycare years)- which right now will be $1000/month, multiply by 2 and add inflation......okay, my head is starting to spin....

It is all where you live..

What is so scary is that between DH and I (I only work part time and only in the summer right now) We will just come at about 35K for the year. Isn't that scary. Can you emagine living on that? But we do and we do it pretty well. Sure there are things we wish we had and someday maybe we will. Sure we wish we had a better savings and could get things but we live ok. So I guess it really is all where you live.

Before or after taxes? Before taxes, we bring home around $50,000 between the two of us. After taxes, though, the number is much, much lower. Day care for Maya is just $75 a week here, and that's standard. The most expensive I've found in town is just $110!

We bring home just about 100K between the two of us. Although DH gets on the OT list on the Hunting Off Season so we could easily go over that. We pay $175 a week for in home day for both the kids which is great. DH wants to give her a raise because he thinks she is underpaid. He is right. She is fabulous with the kids! I keep telling DH that I wan to stay home but since I like to shop and we like the way we live I will continue to work for a while.

WEll, with my new job, that will put us well above the 100,000 range. DH makes close to 100K as it is himself. He is part owner of a software consulting company.

Like all of you............we never seem to have enough money even though we only have 1 car payment and all our debts/student loans are paid off.

The biggest cost we have is daycare which is running us about $18K per year. I will be so happy when Kaylin starts school next year. :)

Right now daycare costs us about $11K/year. When we move to NY this month, daycare will go up to $15K/year. We make good money, but it never seems like enough! We need to get a financial planner to help us I think. Any suggestions how to find one?

I am the only one that works (DH is a stay at home dad!) and our income is over $100k annually. I put everything I can into 401K so that cuts into my take home, but we live very comfortably, despite living in an expensive area. We planned well in advance of the birth of our son - paid off all the bills, only have 1 car payment, and have a pretty sizeable savings account that we can draw on for unplanned expenses. Not having daycare expenses really helps out, although we do have a child support payment every month of $400. I will be glad when that is done (4 more years).

This year, we will hit right about the $100,000 mark, but with all the CC debt from our wedding, my student loan that just seems to go on forever, 2 car payments, a house, day care and just regular ole living expenses, we don't have anything left over! It's crazy!

DH and I make over $100K and manage to save a decent amout every month but we have all the expenses associated with both us working: 2 car payments, my student loans, mortgage and of course DAYCARE! Paying for 2 at the same time is NO JOKE especially in the NY/NJ Tri-state area! It kills us!

It's so true. Living near NYC makes everything outrageously expensive. We pay $350 per week for childcare and people think that's a bargain!

We make close to 80,000 between the two of us.

But we have a good amount of CC we're still paying off. We went to Credit Counceling and we pay 630/month to pay our debt down

We pay 150 in child care/week

Right now our goal is to build up a savings account so I could stay home. Once we get like 10,000 saved thats the plan.

Plus hopefully my doula business will take off.

We just did a new budget, and we're paying 100 extra per month on the debt and putting away 1000/month. If all goes according to plan this time next year I should be able to leave work and we can start TTC #2. I want to be a SAHM for the next baby (I hate pumping so much!!)

Together we make about $90K-he makes 62+, and I make 27+ working only 3 days a week (2 in the office, one from home). My mom watches the boys, so we have no childcare costs. We do have 2 car payments & insurance, and my student loans have a year and a half left. We pay off our one CC every month so there's no debt on it, but it's usually a pretty substantial bill-we have a dividend card, so we charge as much as we can so we can get the 1% cash back on things like groceries, gas, even our phone and cable/internet, and since we always pay it off it doesn't cost us any more than cash would. However, it is scary to get that $100 check and realize we spent another $10K on heaven-knows-what

Ordinarily we're pretty comfortable, but we've had a ton of medical bills lately, dh's insurance didn't cover a LOT of Mason's birth whereas mine from back when I was full time covered Zack's birth completely-amazing what a difference it makes, benefits and insurance. Wow, seeing the number makes it seem like we should have a lot more money than we do, but I am just returning from maternity leave, so things have been a bit tight recently-we are getting back to normal quickly now that we've got my paycheck back. DH is getting a raise next week-how much it is will impact when we can have #3, as I will definitely be a sahm once #3 arrives.
