Well Alex has been out of his crib for about 5 months and I think that the most time he has spent in his own bed has been about a week! I was very shocked tonight when he wanted to go to bed in his "big boy" bed. Of course I had to lay with him but hey it's a start.
So the question is for those with toddlers in "big" beds how do or did you get them to fall alseep on their own in their own beds?? I tried reading to lex the other night and he just wanted more and more and then wanted to get up and play.

At first I laid down with Jason in his bed until he was asleep and then left. That worked for awhile, but I got tired of having to lay there for 45min to an hour and falling asleep myself half the time. And some of the time he would hit or kick me when he didn't want to be in bed. We ended up doing CIO even though I swore I would never do it. It only took about 3 nights before he would go to sleep on his own without so much as a whimper.

Is your question more "how to get them to fall asleep on their own?" or "how to get them to fall asleep on their own in a big kid bed"?

Yes it is more of how to get him to fall asleep on his own. And this may be a silly question but what is CIO?

CIO= cry it out.
I sleep with my toddler because I won't let her CIO so I am of no help:lol:

We started out by lying with him until he fell asleep. That sucked royally.
Then we went to sitting on the edge of the bed. He pitched a fit, but got over it.
Then we'd sit in the glider until he went to sleep.
Then we stood by the door.
Then we stood in the hall.
Then he was fine with it. We just lay him down and walk out.

This is exactly what we did because I wouldnt let Aidan CIO. ANd it worked. unfortunatlely, he's regressed since the twins came home & we are back to sitting in the doorway
