View Full Version : Mothers Day Out programs?
Karri May 26th, 2004, 09:52 AM I know several moms on the board send their kids to an MDO program. How do you find these??? I would love to find one in my area, but I know of nothing, nor do I know anyone who sends their kids to any (but then again, I dont know many SAHMs)
TtownAnne May 26th, 2004, 10:09 AM Karri, if you get any good information, let me know. I totally struck out trying to find any in my area - I know that mostly churches do them, so I called around, but nobody had any idea what I was talking about.
Dawn May 27th, 2004, 09:38 PM I think I stumbled upon one by accident...or shall I say by referral the other day. But this program is called TOPS (Time Out for Parents), which sounds like it would be similar to the one your referring to.
We've made the decision to check out some nursery/preschools for Alexia to hopefully start part-time in the fall *gasp* and this one Presbyterian (sp?)Nursery school I called was all filled, blah blah blah. But she did tell me about this program called TOPS and gave me the phone #. It's one day per week for 2 1/2 hrs. I plan on calling this # tomorrow to get more info :) (how many kids, are there teachers or assistants or volunteers there, age range, etc.)
SO....what I would suggest is try calling some church-type nursery schools in your area and asking them about it. I'm sure they'll be able to give you a phone #, like this one did for me. :)
Good luck!
Brandi May 27th, 2004, 10:46 PM Ours is listed in the phone book under "Mother's Morning Out." It is actually held at our church. I thought that all MMO's were at churches though, but I might be wrong on that assumption. I would look up Mother's Morning Out and Mother's Day Out or anything like that.
Good luck!
You could also try calling churches in the area, but I don't know how you feel about that.
SarahK May 27th, 2004, 11:36 PM Dawn, I think this is the program you found--it looks like it is just in your area. http://www.westfieldnj.com/jwc/tofp.htm
Dawn May 28th, 2004, 12:35 PM Yep, that's it Sarah! Thanks! Didn't realize it was a program just in my area.
Sorry 'bout that Karri!
Nocona May 28th, 2004, 12:48 PM We found the one we are going to use this summer from our Parents as Teachers lady. It's a church run thing but they don't try to teach religion or anything. It's a very small fee per month and they keep them busy 3 hours a day, 2 days a week. It's a little more during the school year, but they can either go 2 or 3 days/wk and it's 4 hours/day.
Karri May 28th, 2004, 09:48 PM Well look at that...in the phone book. Boy am I dumb  I found it under Mothers Day Out in the biz section of the white pages. And its close to my house! Now I just have to call on Monday and find out what its about!! If we can scale down Aidan's day care costs (maybe just 1 day/wk), that would be so cool!
Brandi May 29th, 2004, 11:33 PM Saving money would be SOOOOOO COOL! I hope it works out for you!
Ours has a big waiting list and it only runs in the mornings, but hopefully, yours will have NO waiting list and run all day! Wouldn't that be awesome?
Good luck!
Alyssa June 3rd, 2004, 10:20 PM Can someone explain more about what this is?

sheila June 12th, 2004, 12:21 PM Can someone explain more about what this is?
I think Nocona's description of the one she found described the MMO/MDO pretty well:
We found the one we are going to use this summer from our Parents as Teachers lady. It's a church run thing but they don't try to teach religion or anything. It's a very small fee per month and they keep them busy 3 hours a day, 2 days a week. It's a little more during the school year, but they can either go 2 or 3 days/wk and it's 4 hours/day.
Its sort of like day care, but usually only half days and a couple days a week. And some places are set up so that you go on a schedule (like T-Th or M-W) but other places have drop in schedules.
Does that help?
