Oh my gosh! Im glad shes happy. I couldnt handle being pregnant that much. I wonder what their friends say when they find out shes pregnant? Her babies must only be a few months old each time she gets pregnant again.

Hey - it seems to work for them. Since they are all dressed and well-fed and happy and not on welfare, then I'm happy for them. I'll bet their family reunions 25 years from now will be alot of fun!

No way you could pay me to have that many kids, though!

do you think they are possibly catholic? (no offense to catholics here, I got married in a catholic church...)

There is a family in the St. Louis area very similar to them. They have like 14 kids, maybe more by now. They have them on the news every time she pops another one out. It's incredible!

The baby’s father, former state legislator Jim Bob Duggar, sounded a bit tired but happy
He is tired!?!

I can't imagine:faint:

I read an article about them in Parent's or American Baby or something. There were pictures of their pantry with all the stuff it takes to run that household - it was like walking into a mini-Costco - craziness. If I remember correctly they are born again Christians (not Catholic) and she homeschools all of them using a Christian curriculum.

I too am glad they are happy...but that is not for me at all!!!!!

I read that same article Michele did. Crazy, crazy, crazy! They seemed to have things under control, though. I just cant imagine it. nor would I want to
I went to high school with some kids from a family (at the time) of 14. Last I heard when I was in college, mom was still popping them out  The kids (at least the two oldest girls) didnt care for it. I think they were resentful that they were stuck helping out so much instead of being a teen.

StellaBeing a former Arkansan, my initial guess would be no. Arkansas has a VERY small Catholic population. But they could be...

I read that article too, it was in Parents magazine last summer. As long as they are happy and can support the kids great for them.
Definately not for me, but to each her own.

I think it's wonderful! (just like I think it's wonderful that parents have 1 child or 2)

I've always said, If you can take care of them, have a hundred! It's not for me, but as long as they're happy and the kids are all well cared for, why not?

BTW, I have an uncle who is #8 out of 17! That's what happens when an Irish Catholic marries an Italian Catholic! :lol2:

I'm from Arkansas, and I voted against him. They are AoG or Pentecostal, I don't remember which. Yes, it made the news around here also, and personally, I don't care for him a bit. But, if ya think about it, thats the way to do it - stair-step them so that you always have built in babysitters

I read that yesterday and said I'd rather be taken out and shot than have that many children. Heck I have a hard enough time with my three. I couldn't imagine being pregnant for 16 years in a row either! NO WAY, JOSE!!!

My family is like that. On my Grandmother's side she was number 15 out of 17. The family tree is HUGE. So big they will have it published every few years for all the new additions. My roommate in college was #5 out of 8 and then I also dated a guy who was the 9th kid. He was the youngest.... his eldest brother is like 25 years older than him.... something weird like that.

I can't even imagine it. I'm with Anne, I'd rather run in front of a truck.

I think it's neat, but I've always been fascinated by large families. I couldn't do it myself, though. I knew someone who had at least 12 kids last I saw (plus 3 miscarriages) and the oldest was 16 or so. The Dad was a doctor and the mom a SAHM, homeschools them all and had a degree in early childhood education or elementary Ed.

Glad I have so much company for my truck. My father was the oldest of 8, and my mother was the oldest of 7. I think my main issue is, yes, it's great that they're taking care of the kids all on their own - food, clothing, whatever. But can they possibly be meeting the kids' emotional needs as well? Can the angst-ridden 14 year old twins really be getting the attention they need (don't ask how I know they're angst-ridden; they're 14 - who WASN'T angst-ridden then?) when Mom is busy dealing with the other youngest kids who are demanding her attention for immediate things like food and clean diapers and such?

I'd be looking for room under Anne's truck, too.

There is a family in my neighborhood who is expecting #9 in October.

...Maybe there is some truth to what Bill Cosby says: It doesn't matter how many kids you have. You only raise the first 2. After that, they raise each other.

My dh has always said this. I didn't know Bill Cosby says it, too!

Thats so true for us! It might have some to do with my brother being 14 years younger than me but I did everything for him that my mom should have been doing... and still do.
