Can anyone explain to me what thrush would look like in a baby's mouth, and or what symptoms indicate that it might be there?

TIA.

When Bran had thrush, it was a bunch of white patches in his mouth that wouldn't scrape off. He also had a really hard time nursing because his mouth hurt.

Hilary posted pics in her journal of Ava's mouth when Ava had thrush.

Here's a picture of Ava's tongue when she had it. It was gross! It was on her cheeks and lips too. She also had a slight fever.

Thank you all for your replies. :) When I posted this thread I wasn't positive that Alexis had it, since her mouth was only slightly white, I wasn't in pain while nursing her, and she didn't seem like her mouth was bothering her either.

Then, two days passed.

And now, there is no doubt that we've got it. We went to the doctor today and got liquid Nystatin prescribed. Hopefully it works soon!

One question though - was the Nystatin you all had in liquid or cream form? Her ped seemed to imply that it would be a cream as he wrote the script, but it came in a liquid form with a dropper. How am I supposed to put that on my nipples without it dripping off??

Ava had liquid too, but I didn't use it, so I don't know what to tell you. :dunno:

Bran had liquid, and the ped just told me to rub it on my nipples as well (I ended up eating a lot of yogurt which helped me not get it as well). Nystatin didn't work for Bran, and after 2 rounds of it, he had to have diflucan.

We had both liquid and cream nystatin and liquid and pill forms of diflucan.

I had liquid to give to him. They told me i didnt need to bother rubbing it on my nipples since there was no evidence of it there and if it was, it wasn't a problem and I wasn't in pain. I did seem to have it in my milk ducts, as my breasts themselves were sore and achy. They put me on 2 weeks of diflucan pills. His cleared up in a few days. We didn't seem to get it back at all. You have to be really diligent about sterilizing his binkies and bottles and medicine droppers and all that while you are treating though.

Well, it looks like it's back. We went through the whole round of Nystatin, and it looked like it was almost gone when we ran out. So, I'm calling tomorrow for another round of drops. Hopefully this will work.
