I started taking BCP's right after I got married. I took them from 7-99 until 1-00 and I went off of them rather quickly. I was away from home and forgot them at home. I lived two hours from where dh and I were visiting..while there we found out my grandfather passed away so we had to head to Florida without going back home. I had gained a lot of weight by then.I had AF that month, skipped Feb-April and had one in May. Didn't have another one until I was put on Provera in December. They stuck me with a NP instead of the dr..even though I asked to see the dr. She made me feel terrible and like I was a huge waste of time. I had only one AF from Jan of 2001 until November of 2001. In November I lost 20 lbs due to the stress of marital problems and AF came back. She stayed strong from November until May(of 2002). In May, my dh moved back in and I started to relax..which means I ate more..which means I gained that back plus some. AF was getting later and later until she didn't show up in September. From September of 2002 until now, AF has come three times tops! This past Feb and March I went to another dr. I had blood work and an internal u/s and everything came back normal. She said she thinks it is probably to do with my weight..since I wasn't ever "fat" before I took bcp's. My guess is the very sudden and large weight gain has to do with my problems. She put me on a diet and has me exercising.

It's killing me not knowing for sure though. It's so hard that we can't pinpoint the problem.

Anyone else dealing with unexplained IF? How do you cope?

I just wanted to say I have a story very similiar to yours only I got my happy ending just over two months ago...

I like you gained a lot of weight after getting ready. I got up to my highest weight of 226lbs. and my cycle went wacky. I was having 60 plus day cycles which meant I wasn't ovulating very often and therefore had fewer chances to conceive. I got frustrated with ttc and decided to start dieting and exercising. That was something I could control unlike getting pregnant that I had absolutely no control over. My cycles returned to the normal 30 days when I got down to 199lbs and became slightly shorter as I made it down to 160lbs. I was still focusing on dieting and exercising when I found out I was pregnant. We weren't trying but for some reason I took a test. I guess some part of me knew.

We had gone through the basic fertility testing when I was in the 180lbs area and everything was in perfect working order for both DH and I. Once we found that out we decided to let what would be happen and to not worry about it.

In total I was off all forms of birth control for 2 years and 3 months before I conceived. We unfortunately went on to lose that pregnancy at 11.5 weeks but amazingly we conceived the very next cycle and I now have a 2 month old son.

Good luck and if you ever want to talk or have any questions let me know.

Thank you so much, Donna! :) Your story gives me hope!! I'm having a hard hard time losing the weight...which is making a seemingly "simple" answer not so simple :(
