Olive Oil for Ear Infections

Has anyone used Olive Oil for ear infections? Does it work? I am thinking of doing this with Adam.

Nope...I am not sure that Olive Oil works for ear infections as much as it works with clogged up ears. So if you have too much wax in your ear you pour some olive oil in there before bed and it loosens everything up. If the ear is actually infected I think I would use medication before olive oil..

I was just reading my Dr. Sears Baby Book and is where I heard of using the olive oil. He is on Amoxicillin but that doesn't help the pain and was trying to find something that doesn't involve too much drugs. I would give him Tylenol though if and as needed.

Our grocery store carries Simulsan drops (I think that's what the name is). They are homeopathic and specifically for ear infection pain. I've seen them at Wal-Mart, too. I'm not sure of the age limit on them.

They are Similisan drops. I've never used them though.

I've never heard of olive oil though. I would make sense for ear wax, but EIs are generally goopy/liquidy wax so the olive oil would just mix in with that I'd think :scratch:

Have you tried breastmilk? I was just reading about success with breastmilk (in the ear) and ear infections on Lactnet.

I'm goin to have to try the breastmilk in the ear thing next time one of mine has an EI.... I would have never thought of that :doh:

You know, when I was younger, my grandmother did this.I was a teenager and I was very prone to ear infections, I got them a lot. Grandma would put olive oil in my ear and put a cotton ball in it. And, for me, it did help.

I have also heard of breastmilk for ears and pinkeye!
I have never hears of olive oil! I hope it helps him!!
