View Full Version : Poll RE: Spelling
Susan May 16th, 2004, 11:40 AM As mentioned in another Poll, I'll probably name this baby Lilia, assuming it IS in fact a girl.
If you saw printed on a page the name "Lili" how would you automatically assume that was prounounced?
Lily?
"Lee-Lee"?
Karly May 16th, 2004, 02:18 PM Lee Lee
sheila May 16th, 2004, 02:33 PM I would probably say Lily
harmonielyn May 16th, 2004, 02:33 PM Lee Lee
~Andrea~ May 16th, 2004, 02:38 PM Lee Lee
Do you not like it with the "y" or do you just prefer the "i" spelling because that's the way it is in Lilia?
Susan May 16th, 2004, 03:10 PM I like it fine with the Y. Was just considering, briefly, using an I. I don't think that feels right though. Particularly since I thought most people would look at it and think "Mimi", pronouncing it Lee-Lee.
Harfin May 17th, 2004, 12:31 PM I would think Lily.
SarahK May 17th, 2004, 12:35 PM Lily
koalita May 21st, 2004, 11:14 PM I would think Lily, but I have a student in one of my classes whose name is spelled Lila and she pronounces it Lay-la, so I wouldn't be sure. Last year I had a student named Leili who pronounced her name Lily.
bunkie68 May 26th, 2004, 01:13 PM I would think Lily.
TxTeacher May 31st, 2004, 12:53 AM Lee Lee was my first thought.
Cazzle May 31st, 2004, 01:16 AM I'm not sure. I look at it and think it should be pronounced Lee-Lee, but I'd probably guess that it's a different spelling of Lily.
I'm not all that fond of Lili. If an alternative spelling is required, I'd nominate Lillie, but I think Lily or Lilly are preferable over all others.
Hilary May 31st, 2004, 02:07 AM I voted Lily, but I may be biased since that is Madelynn's middle name. :)
