View Full Version : Poll on girl's name
Susan May 14th, 2004, 10:53 AM I'm PG with number 2, and while we won't know for a while, my gut says girl. DH and I knew if we ever had a girl her middle name would be Nancy. His mother is Nancy, and my late-mother was also Nancy. Have you ever thought about a first name to go with Nancy? It's tough, let me tell ya! :angrywife (**edited to add we do not like the idea of using Nancy as the first name and calling her by her middle name.)
Anyway, I won't bore you with the story of how we came up with it, unless you think it might influence your opinion on the name, but we think we have one. I'm still on the fence though. So I'm asking for opinions.
Lilia Nancy Harsell (Prounounced "Lilly-uh", like Lillian without the N.)
She'd probably go by Lily Harsell.
Like it? Don't like it? Have a better idea for us? Thanks!
Brooke May 14th, 2004, 11:13 AM I like Lillia. I think Lilliana would sound nice, too.
SarahK May 14th, 2004, 12:26 PM I like it and I love the nickname of Lily.
Barb May 14th, 2004, 12:31 PM I like it, too.
TtownAnne May 14th, 2004, 12:39 PM I like it, although if you're going to call her Lily why not just name her Lily?
Susan May 14th, 2004, 12:58 PM because i think "Lily Nancy" sounds goofy.
Cortney May 14th, 2004, 02:52 PM I like it. I have a friend who named her daughter Liljah (pronounced Lil-ya)- it's a finnish name I think- her husband lived in finland for a couple years.
Karri May 14th, 2004, 09:18 PM I like Lilia a lot. I also like Lily a lot, as well. Just keep in mind...its not often you will be calling her "lily nancy" , so its not like it has to sound perfect together!
Cazzle May 15th, 2004, 08:27 AM I love it!
Another variation I like is Lilliana.
Nancy is a tricky one. Good luck!
Girlo June 10th, 2004, 03:41 AM I really like the name Lilia. :) And Lily! :)
I voted for Okay though....because of the combo of the name Lilia Harsell. When I said them together quickly....the combo of the vowel at the end of Lilia and the 'a' sound in Harsell just blended together and made the H in the last name disappear.
So.....the surname sounds like arse...ell.
Just a thought..... :awink:
Alyssa June 10th, 2004, 11:10 AM I like Lilia a lot. I also like Lily a lot, as well. Just keep in mind...its not often you will be calling her "lily nancy" , so its not like it has to sound perfect together!
ITA on both fronts
AmyP June 10th, 2004, 12:49 PM Lilia is very pretty. In fact, a girl named Lilia won the all-around in gymnastics in the 1996 Olympics. She's Ukrainian. I think it sounds really nice with Nancy too.
Bev June 11th, 2004, 09:25 PM I agree with Karri on the Lily Nancy thing, you really won't be using them together all the time. I think I like Lilliana better than Lilia. For me Lilia is awkward, and if you're going to shorten it to Lily anyway.....:)
Brownie June 14th, 2004, 03:29 PM Just some more food for thought...I've heard Nancy used as a nickname for Ann(e), Annette, and Nanette...Lilia Ann(e) has a nice sound IMHO.
