I know this is probably going to sound strange but I wanted to ask in case I should be concerned. Emma (6 mos) and I are currently visiting my parents in CA. I bought a pack-n-play for her to sleep in. She has been sleeping nights in it and the first nap of the day, rest of her naps are in the car seat and we are driving around shopping or visiting people.

In MT she will sleep 10-12 hours at night and I am lucky if I can get more than 1/2 hour out her at naps (each nap). Nights here she has been going down later but getting up at the same time - 5:30 (6:30 MT time), but I can get her to go back to sleep in bed with me for another hour or so. The biggest change is her morning nap is 1 1/2 hours+.

I assume this is ok and I should just feel lucky? As I said, she has never really taken long naps so part of me wonders if it is ok. If it is ok, I want to figure out how to bottle it and take it back home!

Zack has alwasy been a horrible napper. Cat naps all day IF that. Its worse at day care. The other day when I picked him up, he had taken a 2.5 hour nap!!! And a few other decent sized naps. Today, two 1.5 hour naps... unheard of for this kid!
Whats changed is that he recently started solids, and has been sleeping better at night (through a 12 hour night!) so maybe that helps, I dunno. But this isnt the kid I know! I am just taking it that he knows what he needs and will sleep when he needs it. Maybe you'll get lucky and its not because of where she is but just that time in her life to start napping better!

Katrina-

I really hope that this continues at home. I was thinking maybe this could be a growth spurt as well. She has been on solids for a while. I feel lucky but at the same time it is so strange and I keep going in to make sure she is still breathing!! I expected to have MORE trouble sleeping while on vacation not better sleep!

Wow, I'm so jealous of those naps--I'm with Jen...enjoy them!

It may be all the stimulation she's getting being in a new place with new people... She probably is sleeping more to process everything new she's seeing during the day. Hopefully she'll continue when she gets home though.
