View Full Version : Nighty Night Video?
bunkie68 May 6th, 2004, 04:30 PM Kevin saw this advertised on Dr. Phil's show - it's a video that has scenes of baby animals yawning and going to sleep, combined with soothing music. The theory is that it will help your child settle down for sleep, too. I ordered it in desperation - we're in sleep hell, and bedtime last night was a pitched battle. Haven't gotten it yet, and thought I'd ask if anyone else has it. If so, how did/does it work for you and your little one? The website says it will calm and soothe the most restless child - if it works with Julian, I'd say they're right, we'll test it for them but good!
sheila May 6th, 2004, 04:37 PM I can't wait to hear if it helps! I hope it does!
miacat May 6th, 2004, 05:01 PM We don't have that, but DS does watch a short video (Baby Einstein or Sesame Street on tape) every night before bed. After he stopped taking a bottle, he needed a new routine, and he chose to complete his evening with a bath, then books, then a short video. He goes to bed really well and he knows it is bedtime when the video is done.
Smithy May 7th, 2004, 02:17 PM We've been using the "Bear in the Big Blue House" videos (I check them out of the library). Each episode ends with the bear and the moon singing a goodbye song and then they say good night and he turns off the light. That's been really helpful with Isabel. Some nights I fast forward to the song... she's really connected the moon with time to go to bed. Just an idea if the Dr. phil video doesn't work. Although, I think if it doesn't work than videos just might not be Julian's thing. Sounds like all the watching of time to go to sleep might be good. It would probably help Isabel... just for the sake of her knowing what was coming.

Connie1222 May 7th, 2004, 04:38 PM We don't have that one, but we use 2 videos and alternate them. One is The Snowman (absolutely excellent video and such a great story) and the other is Sesame Street's Betime Stories and Songs. We do bath, video and then stories.
bunkie68 May 10th, 2004, 01:46 PM I'm thinking videos will be a good thing for Julian - for a while we'd watch "Michael's Magical Night" on one of his Little People videos, and that worked well. He lost interest in that, though, and we've been watching Bob the Builder - good entertainment, but not exactly conducive to sleep! He howls when I turn it off. I'm hoping this video, with images geared toward bedtime and sleep, will help get him prepared for the idea that it is in fact time to go to bed. We'll see! I'll update when we've gotten it and tried it for a bit.

We were watching this for a while as well before Jack lost interest!

Mary DK May 23rd, 2004, 07:53 AM Videos work well for Eliot too. He has the choice of reading 3-4 books or watching a video & reading a short story before bedtime and he alternates between both of them. I'm really glad that the videos work for him since it might really come in handy when baby #2 comes along :aok:
Hadn't thought of the Big Bear videos... I'll have to make sure to get some of those for Eliot
Lisa, did you get the video? How did it work?? Keeping my :crossfing that it did!!
bunkie68 August 18th, 2004, 05:12 PM I never did update on this. We did get the video and it worked great...for about a week. When Julian started getting up and asking to watch the monkeys at 8:00 in the morning, I knew its usefulness as a sleep aid was probably limited! He enjoys watching the animals, though, so I guess it's good for that. We're back to watching Bob or Baby Einstein before bed, and he knows he gets to watch a video, then we brush our teeth and go on to bed. So the routine is OK even without a video specifically geared to bedtime.
