We just joined a pool for the Summer/Fall and the thought of going through that many disposable swim diapers pains me. Does anyone have any expertise in a cloth swim diaper area?

my mom just bought Gabrielle a bathing suit with the swim diaper built in (at Kohl's). I'm guessing they probably make boys suits that way as well. Or you could just use a cloth diaper cover/wrap. You don't want anything absorbant that will weigh him down. Let me know if you want more information than that :awink:

Target has boys swim diapers. They were in the same section as DD's swimsuit with a swim diaper.

I also recommend either a diaper cover or a swim diaper. Some good ones are made by PoolPals (coming soon to my site - just waiting for them to arrive) and Gabbys.

We had a cloth swim diaper last year that my mom got us somewhere..however, the pools here wouldn't let us in unless he had the little swimmers....that was their policy

I love the Bumpy Swim Diaper that I have for Alyssa...it's adorable in and of itself (that with a tee shirt will be great for swimming!). Plus, it holds everything in. It can either be pulled on like underwear or it has side snaps--especially helpful when she has a BM while wearing it!

My pool had an issue with it at first. However, when I showed them the swim diaper, showed them that it was completely waterproof and made of the same material as the ones built into the swimsuits, and showed them the tag identifying it as an actual swim diaper, they were fine with it.

It's actually written in the rules they handed out that the kids must be in a cloth diaper...its posted at the pool as "swimming diaper", but I figure I can't be the only one at the pool who would be using something not disposable! Thanks!

We have some ecology kids and kooshies swim diapers and they work really well. We used the ecology kids one yesterday and it worked really well. He spent most of last summer in his kooshies one. I got the kooshies on ebay and the ecology kids ones I lucked out on at the second hand store :)

I saw cloth swim diapers at Target--built right into the swim suits. They were under $15.

The pool we have swimming lessons at will let us use cloth swim diapers this year :D YAY!

I found some at Target for boys (they had them for girls too)..they had like the little speedo looking ones for 5.99...and swimming trunk looking ones for 7.99...not bad at all

We've used a non-disposable swim diaper that we got at BRU. It's approved for use at our YMCA where we take lessons, and they have pretty strict rules. I myself use a disposable under it, but the package states it's not necessary. Here's a link...

My DD is in ISR lessons and the teacher required the disposable diapers, plus a swim diaper (like training pants). One of my girlfreinds from Junior Leagues DD was taking swim lessons and got a nasty infection, from the pool, and it spread to my girlfreind, her husband and her grandmother. It had to do with something in the feces. Just something to think about. (I am not trying to be negative here, just informative, because I had NO idea beforehand.)

Hi Stella,

Just to let you know that true swim diapers are supposed to be quite snug as are Little Swimmers. Since none of the above will hold in pee, they're supposed to catch solids. I make sure that my son's swim diapers are snug against his thighs so nothing can escape and that's the best that anyone can do. Actually, I find I can get a better fit with his swim diaper than with a little swimmers - the mediums are too small on him and the larges are way to big - they wouldn't catch a thing at this weight. :)

I've heard (but never tried) that you can use a Bummi's Cotton wrap as a swim diaper, as well as an unstuffed fuzzi bunz.

Yep - I've used both and had great results. Also, maybe it obvious but if you notice that baby has had a BM, leave the pool immediately, flush the solids and put on another swim diaper. :)
