View Full Version : What will I need..
Carla December 6th, 2003, 09:27 AM It seems like I have everything :lol2: . Of course if I have a girl, I will probably have to get some new clothes (like you'd have to twist my arm for that one :lol2: ). We're almost set for diapers (we use cloth), but I am going to need some newborn covers and maybe some prefolds (I was making them, but it's too tedious, plus I'm hunting some cheap ones on ebay).
I've also been thinking we'll need another dresser since Ethan's is cram packed and I'll need something to put the baby's clothes in. I threw out Ethan's exersaucer (it was old and missing some of the things on it), so I think a new one would be nice as well as a swing since we had only borrowed one.
I'm trying to think of things as time goes by. A lot of things are simply for convenience, which I'll need since it's the second time around with a newborn/infant and a toddler. I had more than I needed for Ethan to begin with.
sheila December 6th, 2003, 12:58 PM I think that a new dresser was one of the only things we bought this time around.
We decided to go with a regular dresser instead of something more changing table-ish since its just as easy/easier to change Maggie on her bed now.
The only other "big things" that we needed are a double stroller (which I ended up deciding to get because it dawned on me that being able to keep them both in a stroller would make walks/shopping much easier even if they would prefer to walk) and a sling, which I am planning to make, but I haven't gotten around to yet.
Julie December 6th, 2003, 02:36 PM I am in the same boat Carla, with the exception that I obviously won't be needing girl clothes, darn it! This little one should be born within 2 weeks of Jordans birthdate, so the seasons for clothes will even match. I am buying this little one new bedding, but we are using Jordans same crib, changing table, and main toys. The only things that I have bought or need to buy are a new boppy (I never could nurse right without it), a new mobile (Jordan still uses his for the music at night), a double stroller or two ;) , and I am still thinking about the rest.
I think the great thing about having the second round close to the first is that the gear we already have isn't outdated yet :)
Good luck and I look to hear about other suggestions, I can't help but feel that I am really missing out on some really logical stuff.
Hilary December 6th, 2003, 05:40 PM These are the only things I can think of that we need:
Dresser
Crib mattress (Madelynn uses hers in her toddler bad) My mom's buying it so I'm not worried.
Bedding for crib, Madelynn's didn't hold up very well and my Grandma made it just for her, so I want her to keep it.
Boy clothes, IF it's a little boy, but i doubt it is.
Carla December 6th, 2003, 06:52 PM Darn, this just takes away one of the best parts of pregnancy, shopping  . I guess it's good to save money though :D . I figure since they will be about 3 motnhs apart, the clothes will still be pretty good seasonwise. Ethan outgrew winter things before it really got cold, so I don't even need to worry about that.
Mandi December 7th, 2003, 10:40 AM Ummmm patience?
Only thing that I got was a boppy (which I HATE), a double stroller and some new clothes. But I did end up getting Micayla another bedroom set so I guess that counts since Melayna got the crib & dressers. :)
Stacey December 7th, 2003, 06:05 PM Wow, I guess I'm one of the only hussies having the opposite sex this time. Is that right? Other than Karri, of course.
Anyway, other than clothes, we also got MIL to bring over her PNP and her travel swing. The difference is that we have a two-story house this time. I'd like the baby to have somewhere to nap down here too.
Mandi mentioned the Boppy. I hate that too for BF'ing. I have the My Brest Friend from last time. That thing is so much better than the Boppy. I think they may have changed the name to My Best Friend though. It velcros behind your back and has more of a flat surface for the baby to lie on. I even got the travel one ($20) which I like more because its core is inflatable (but it has an outer lining of cloth) as opposed to the regular one ($40) that's core is spongy. Both are great, but Maia spit up a lot, and it was just easier to clean the travel one.
Karri December 7th, 2003, 08:28 PM Hmn....I wont address the duplicates we had to get, but we fished up an extra dresser and bought clothes. I also bought a twin nursing pillow, which is GREAT, even for one baby (kinda sounds like the one stacey described, but larger).

Well, it could be right or wrong, depending on what I'm having!
Stacey December 8th, 2003, 12:05 AM Hilary, I'm hoping you're having a girl if only so you can use the name Ava. :)
Nocona December 8th, 2003, 12:05 AM Ami had opposite, you dork!

LOL!!!! Hello, my name is dumb ass.
Hilary December 8th, 2003, 12:51 AM LOL!!!! Hello, my name is dumb ass.
  Mine too, I didn't even think about that!
:angrywife OMG! I just saw this smilie! It's hilarious!
Is it bad to say I want a girl just so I can use the name Ava too! :blush1:
:tantrum: This one is PERFECT for Madelynn.
Mandy December 11th, 2003, 09:46 AM I'm having a boy this time. So far I've bought boy clothes/sleepers/recieving blankets/pnp sheets etc. I'm going to have to get Emma a toddler bed and mattress but I'm hoping to hold off on that until closer to May, since Jake will be sleeping in the PnP in our room. I'm still debating about a double stroller...we have three regular ones and a Bjorn so I'm not sure when I'll need that yet. I think the only other thing I need is new pacifiiers and diapers. We're using the same crib, carseat, toys, dresser, etc.
MaryNH December 15th, 2003, 11:14 PM Invest in a good double stroller. Seriously. I wish I had done that~now I'm trying to find the perfect one!!!
amanda December 17th, 2003, 01:19 AM We haven't bought too many new things... I'm using the same crib (new mattress) and bedding, so we bought new bedding for Micah. We already had a full size bed for Micah, but my mom insisted he's too little for it, so she bought him a convertible crib and new bedding. We also got him a dresser. Looks like Micah is coming out on top in this deal- the new baby is already getting the shaft of receiving all hand-me-downs!
Un fortunately, I don't think I'm going to be able to use many of Micah's clothes, though since he was born in summer and this will be a winter baby. So I did buy some new clothes.
We'll also be getting a double stroller, but not for awhile.
A few things I "want" for Cade are extras that we just didn't get for Micah last time b/c $$ was tight. But now that we have all the essentials, we're getting the fun stuff!
Jillian January 2nd, 2004, 10:38 AM I bought some little boys clothes, only 9 outfits though and only newborn/0-3 size. We didn't find out Janelle's sex till late so we have a lot of gender neutral stuff and she grows so slow that she has so far worn every size except preemie in both winter and summer...so we have all seasons.
Other than that, we have gotten and will be getting double strollers...I'm still trying to find the one I want, I really want to test it out before I buy it...but from what I've read online I really think I want the maclaren twin traveller for my car. DH likes the peg tender twin though...so who knows. We have a duo glider (which as soon as I get around to it I'm selling to the used baby store) and a jeep tandem (which I'll keep in the garage for neighborhood trips cause Janelle likes it a lot).
We also got a second crib, matress, and waterproof matress pad. We co-sleep with Janelle's crib sidecarred, and we are just sidecarring this crib to the opposite side of the bed...we did the whole expensive nursery/bedding set last time (glenna jean stuff) and it was fun...but we never used any of it...so we aren't bothering this time.
We got a dresser for him since Janelle's is beyond full, I'm actually hoping to move somewhere with more/bigger closets before or soon after kincaid is born so Janelle doesn't have to give up one of her two closets...
Other than that, I'm considering a new/different swing...not sure though. Janelle HATED her swing, but she still hates swinging even at the park or on a porch swing, so I think it was more her personality than the swing it's self...
