View Full Version : Would you do Clomid again?

For those who have used Clomid to get PG in the past (as I did), would you use it again?

I'm back to charting again (after 2 years w/o AF due to bf-ing) and I have found that my charts are back to exactly the way they were before we used Clomid to get PG with DD (and her twin who did not make it past 8 weeks in utero)... It worries me a little b/c I realize that I would have to go back on Clomid again, most likely, to get PG again, and I'm not sure if I want to go down that path again...

Has anyone else thought about this?

We aren't TTC right now, but if we have to use it again in the future, I definitely would. But I had a very positive experience with it (got preggy on the first round after a year TTC) :)

I was actually on Serophene (same as Clomid, just different manufacturer, hence the different name).

I did have all those nasty side effects etc...... but I think since I was only on it one month I don't have that horrible of memories of it.

I DO however REALLY hope to make it a last resort due to the increased chance of twins. We have twins on BOTH sides of our family, and with the slight increased chance due to the Clomid, my Dr. gave us a 50% chance of having them. Now that I have one and know the work involved......... the idea of twins doesn't quite hold the glamour for me that it once did!

I was also lucky and conceived on the first time around.... I'm just not sure how much I'd be able to handle twins as a bf-ing, AP parent... It takes so much of my energy to parent just one, let alone twins on top of the one that I have! I don't know that I could do it... I see DH's cousin trying to handle twins, with a 4 year old, and it's overwhelming to her and she's not even an AP parent...

And I'm not sure that I'd want to go through losing another baby, if that makes sense... conceiving twins and losing one was VERY hard for me...

I'm just not sure...

DH and I talked about it, and we decided that if we TTC again, we won't use the Clomid and just see what happens... if we don't get PG we'll guess it wasn't meant to be...

I am. I TTC'd for 20 months before 3 rounds of clomid made me a mama. We are TTC baby #2 right now, and I have a filled script of clomid sitting on my night table. I had some wacko side effects while taking it, but nothing that would deter me from doing it again.
Good luck with whatever choice you make.

It took us two rounds of Clomid to get Alex. We are now TTC#2 and on our 2nd cycle of Clomid!

I, too, was lucky and got pregnant with Ali on my first round of clomid. We are now ttc#2 and I am on my 6th cycle of clomid. For some reason, after I had Ali my body gor worse. My doctor also said that it was extremely lucky that I conceived on the first try last time. I wish you all the luck in the world with using it again - may it be a short journey for you!

I concieved the twins on my 3rd round of clomid. While I wouldnt change a thing, as I love them dearly, I would never use it again. I just cant take the chance that we'd have twins again...I could never handle it having gone thru it.
I am pretty certain we wont have another child, but if we do decide to give it a go, we'll try w/o and if it wasnt meant to be, then so be it.

BTW...I made the comment to one of the NICU nurses that I never thought I would be in the 12% who would concieve twins on clomid. She laughed and said that all the clomid moms say that and said that maybe they need to update that percentage, because 80% of the twins in the nicu were fertility drug twins.

Well, isn't that a scary thought as I'm about to take my second round of clomid for ttc #2  Thanks for scaring the tar out of me Karri!

I'm guessing that if we want to go for baby #3, we will probably have to use Clomid again. We actually conceived Megan the first month off of Clomid. We were taking a break. :) I had taken 4 rounds of 50mg, and 2 rounds of 100mg. I guess that I still had some in my system, although I O'd much later than usual. For this pregnancy, I had tried to use Vitex, but it didn't work for me. After a three month cycle, once stopping BCP's, I decided to go to the Dr for some Clomid. I tried one round of 50mg, which didn't work. Then on the next round at 100mg, I got pregnant! We were very shocked that it happened so quickly, since I took us a year with Megan. So, it looks like I would probably have to use it again, since I don't O on my own. But right now, I'm not too worried about that!

I would use it again--but it took a low dose (50mg) of Clomid (plus IUI and Gluc) to get us PG with Katie.

Yep, and without even having to think about it. We were OTL for a few months, but now we've decided to wait until the summer to actively TTC. I will go back on clomid in the fall if I don't get PG w/o it by then.

We're currently on our 1st round of clomid to TTC#2...I didnt have to use it the first time around. I'm hoping to have as good as results as the rest of you! I do O on my own, but my LP is way too short and my prog. is too low.
My MIL was a L&D nurse and when I told her we were starting clomid, she immediately says..oh, many women have twins on that  I dont really want twins, but I would deal...however now Karri's got me more scared!

Never again. I used clomid for 3 rounds and discontinued its use because I hated it!
I couldn't put up with the constant hot flashes and the weight gain. That besides the "threat" of a multiple pregnancy which we couldn't afford

I am currently PG with Twins from our 1st cycle of 50mg of Clomid. We don't want any more children, but if we did, I would definately use Clomid again!

I got pregnant with Julian on my 3rd round of Clomid (75 mg) - that and IUI did the trick. :) I didn't have any real bad side effects, so I wouldn't have any problems using it again should I ever decide to have another child.

I got pregnant with Morgan on my 3rd cycle of clomid (150 mgs--my doctor was aggressive!!). I am currently using it again to TTC baby #2. I don't remember any really bad side effects from the first time I used it, and since I never O on my own, the chances of being able to conceive would be pretty slim without the clomid.

I used it twice! I would definaltey do it again!

I got pregnant after the 2nd round of clomid 100mg with my 1st And then got pregnant on the 1st round 50mg of clomid with my 2nd! If I need it for my 3rd i wouldn't even blink to use it again!

I would probably use it again. And it's probably going to be very likely that I'll have to use it again. I've been off of all forms of BC since june of last year and I've only had about 5 periods. So when we really deciede we are ready to have another, I'll go back on it. Right now...we are just open to whatever happens =)

We concieved this baby on our first round of Clomid (50mg). I would do it again in a second and most likely will have to when we're ready for #3.
I had minor hot flashes, and MAJOR mood swings!! On the day of O I seriously had a mental breakdown and felt like tearing through my house, breaking things! But after O I was wonderful  It was weird because I'm not normally an emotional, mood-swing type person.
Luckily it only took one cycle or DH may have killed me!
