View Full Version : Willa?
TinkDot April 27th, 2004, 09:44 PM For the past 6-8 months I've been thinking of the name Willa for a little girl. DH has settled on it, but isn't crazy about it.
I thought it was a nice combination of family names, and not overly popular. My grandpa & FIL' s are both Bill's (Williams) and DH's grandma is Winnie.
The middle name would either be Elizabeth or Claire(both family names).
Michael thinks it's too old ladish sounding!
Seriould what do you guys think?
Brooke April 27th, 2004, 09:48 PM I think that it's a little old but once you name a baby that it won't seem old ladyish anymore. Claire, Grace, Anna, Helen, Caroline, Carolyn, etc. used to be "old" names but they are all being used more now.
I think Willa Claire sounds nice.
Bev May 2nd, 2004, 06:07 PM I like it! :)
Kaybee711 May 2nd, 2004, 06:41 PM One thing you have to ask yourself: Willa your daughter like it? Couldn't resist!
What happened to Lilana or something like that?
I am not sure about it but I hate to impose my opinion on you.
sheila May 2nd, 2004, 07:31 PM I think its pretty!

 Every name Michael and I think about we come up with a way to make fun of it, so we figure we'll make fun of the kids name so when they get to school they'll be tough (worked with my little sister!).
Oh, believe me Liliana is still my #1 choice, but Michael isn't into it because friends of ours named their cat Lily!
TxTeacher May 4th, 2004, 03:29 AM I'm not crazy about it.
SarahK May 4th, 2004, 08:45 AM I like it--it's like the famous author, Willa Cather.
ArtsyMom May 5th, 2004, 02:08 PM My niece's name is Willa! :woo: It certainly is original.
When my parents first told me her name after she was born, I thought they said: Willow. First I wasn't crazy about it but now I like it and it suits her - she's very independent and confident (for a one year old  ).

Oh yeah, I'm glad to hear that there's another little girl with that name!
TtownAnne May 5th, 2004, 04:12 PM It's not my favorite, but it's not horrible. I realize that lots of old-fashioned names have come back into fashion, but there's still alot that haven't (Esther, anyone? Maude?) I don't know what the dividing line is, but I think this one would fall into the Esther and Maude category.
Brooke May 5th, 2004, 04:33 PM (Esther, anyone?
My mother is begging me to name my next baby Esther! I think it has something to do with that book of the Bible. I'll have to read it some day.
TinkDot May 5th, 2004, 05:20 PM Gosh, I never thought of it as old fashioned! I love old fashioned names for boys (Henry, Simon, etc..). So maybe that's why I like it! Hmm...
stass May 5th, 2004, 08:06 PM I like.
Brandi May 6th, 2004, 05:59 PM hmmm...... I do like it! But, I can see a lot of people not liking it. I thought of Willa Cather also. I also like Willow!
tinycandi May 9th, 2004, 06:46 PM My grandma's sister's name was Willa. To me it's a very old name. It's not awful though.
I do like Willa Claire..or even Willa Elizabeth Claire if you go with 2 middle names.
Good luck :)
Theresa May 26th, 2004, 07:14 AM Why not name her Elizabeth Claire? Of course, that's my daughter's name, so I may be a *little* biased!
I'm not crazy about Willa. It just doesn't do anything for me. Kind of 'blah'. JMHO

My little sister's name is Elizabeth, so I can't do that! It's my middle name, my mom's middle name and my sister's first name.
cimberdog May 26th, 2004, 10:31 AM I'm not crazy about it. It reminds me of something flower-child you would hear in the 60's.
Jeni May 26th, 2004, 12:56 PM You know that's Will Smiths daughters name? I like Willa Claire.
Nadine May 30th, 2004, 08:37 AM

I have a niece alled esther. OK, usually those girls end up being called Estie and it is not THAt fashionable, more used in ultra-orthodox circles. The Book of Esther is one we read once a year on Purim. She was a very powerful and positive personality.
