I have been starting to play patty cake with my DD and for the life of me, I can't remember part of the song. Silly question I know but I don't want my child think that "blah" are the words.
Please fill in the blanks:
Patty cake, patty cake bakers man
Bake me a cake as fast as you can.
___ it and ____ it and mark it with "B"
Put it in the oven for baby and me.
Thanks for your help. :)

First off, I know it as pat-a-cake. And the blanks according to my family are roll it and peek it. :dunno:

My friend says the one you do and she says "roll it and pat it and mark it with a B"
I've always said "roll it up, roll it up and stick it in the pan". Rolling his arms and then tickling him. That's the way my mom always did it :)

Am I the only one who customizes it? I always say "mark it with an L for Liam and me"?

Nope.. we have to do it four ways due to my daughter's pleads..
Mark it with a B .... for Benjy and ME
Mark it with an L ... for Lexie and ME
M for Mommy
D for Daddy.
When we finish one, Lexie will say, "Do Benjy!" or "Do Daddy!"

WE say the opposite "pat it and roll it"
We also say "mark it with a C - for Carter and Me(or mommy)
I've heard "pat it and prick it" and others too.

I don't customize it because using "R" just sounds funny because it doesn't rhyme with "me".

I can't even remember how I said it; I guess my mom didn't use that nursery rhyme with us very often. :dunno: I know I've never used that particular rhyme with the young children I work with.
I found a site that has the words and even some coloring pages, if anyone's interested:
http://www.first-school.ws/activities/nrhymes/patacake.htm (http://www.first-school.ws/activities/nrhymes/patacake.htm)
(BTW: on this site, they use the version "And pat it, and prick it".)

I always used to say "patty cake" too but in these goofy Minnesota parts they say "pat a cake".
I can't remember the rest...

I think there are several versions-
The one I know
Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man
Bake me a cake as fast as you can ( done clapping your hands together, and clapping alternating hands of the person you're doing it with)
Roll it (rolling motion) and pat it (pat hands on top of each other)
And mark it with B (draw a B in the air)
And throw it (throwing motion) in the oven for baby and me.

We do "pat it and roll it and mark it with an E (or M)" and put it in the oven for "Emily and me" or "Molly and me". DH just does their names, leaving off "and me".

I always used to say "patty cake" too but in these goofy Minnesota parts they say "pat a cake".
I am not in MN, but they say it that way b/c that is the right way :awink:
You're telling the baker's man to pat you a cake. saying "patty cake" doesnt make sense. KWIM?
I think there are several versions-
The one I know
Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man
Bake me a cake as fast as you can ( done clapping your hands together, and clapping alternating hands of the person you're doing it with)
Roll it (rolling motion) and pat it (pat hands on top of each other)
And mark it with B (draw a B in the air)
And throw it (throwing motion) in the oven for baby and me.
This is pretty much the way we do it, too, except the part in red is:
put it (poke baby in belly)
And I usually customize w/ my kids' initials.
