View Full Version : Who is NOT doing IF treatments?

I am not, because we can't afford them. We *had* testing coverage and some treatment coverage on our insurance, but when my company bought new policies this year, those went out the window. We were in mid-cycle on our second clomid cycle, so we had to plunk down $500 for that cycle and another $500 for the next. After that, we had to quit because we just couldn't afford it.

Luckily, we had the standard tests mostly out of the way. I had an HSG, Dan had a S/A and so on. Dealing with secondary IF, those where what was recommended because "we know I can have kids..." (I am some what frustrated by hearing that.)

We aren't doing anything to actively treat my fertility problems; in all honestly, we haven't gotten into any actual treatments since we first started TTC three years ago. The most I've done is taken Glucophage and Provera, and we've gone to an RE once, but we haven't done anything to actively get ovulation to occur; i.e., Clomid, injectibles, etc. It's always been a financial issue, of course. I hope and pray that will change once I get a teaching job and start receiving really good state benefits so we can afford the (insane! :tearhair: ) cost of IF treatments.

You know, I still don't understand why IUI costs so much. We did ask the RE about it before we found out about the dropped coverage and the IUI ONLY was $350. That is seperate from the meds and the U/S and the trigger shot and the wash etc etc. I do NOT understand how it costs $350 just to shoot it up there! I don't think gigilos cost that much!

Well, I'm going on assumption (maybe wishful thinking? ), mainly because the health benefits are pretty good, though coverage varies from district to district. Once I get hired somewhere, I may be totally shocked to find out that few plans cover IF treatment!

:spit: I hear ya! Why should it cost SO much to get knocked up, when there are girls getting pregnant everyday by accident...for FREE?! I can buy a turkey baster and do the job myself a whole hell of a lot cheaper. :lol2:

Although, now that I think about it, the idea of trying to manipulate the "stuff" myself is a little grody.

Lisa,

FYI, TX has some laws mandating fertility coverage. You might want to check it out...

Good luck!

Thanks, Suzi. :) I've looked into it, but I think Texas is a state where employers don't have to offer IF coverage; they're simply encouraged to. I'll see if I can find more info; a lot of what I get for insurance will depend on where I work, and I'm hoping that state benefits in general will be better than most private plans. :crossfing

We haven't started to TTC yet although we know I have some issues (I only ovulate 25% of the time). We plan to TTC naturally for about 4 months before filling the perscription for Clomid. If things get worse and we have to look into more expensive options, I don't know what we'll do. Our insurance doesn't cover anything IF related :(

We aren't actively TTC right now so we aren't going through any treatments. I am losing weight in hopes that it will help the meds. Can't hurt right? When we were TTC we did everything but IVF. Our insurance doesn't cover that and I am just not ready for that expense.

We are not doing treatments right now but we have gone through ALL of it in the past. I live in MA where IF is supposed to be covered but my new ins has $1000 deductable that must be met first...we just don't have that $$$ right now so that coupled with the fact that I just don't want to be POKED and PRODED again are the reasons we are waiting. Plus I have a fantasy that I will see a +++ at home! Ahhh...one can dream!

We aren't doing anything right now either. We are just being OTL. We really don't have the money right now. Plus right now our DD stays with my MIL while we work and she says she doens't want to keep another baby. Well not working is NOT an option for me so until we are better off financially to be able to put two in daycare(I don't think it would be fair to have one in daycare and the other not), then we have to become more financially stable, or Jordan goes to school!

I'm not doing treatments right now. I'm trying to lose some weight in hopes that AF will return...If things don't start looking up soon, then most likely I'll start Clomid.
