View Full Version : Always thinking about "what if..."

Coming from a family of anxious people, I was brought up with a lot of "watch out" and "be careful" and "you never know what might happen..." type feedback. So, it's hard *not* to be neurotic anyway.

However, with all the CRAP that has happened in the last few years, specifically in Toronto (kidnappings, sexual assaults, murders of children), I'm really freaked.

I am trying to stay rational and calm but do admit I wonder a lot about my own child and the many, many dangers :errr: lurking out there. Do you feel the same way?

I used to, until I married DH who is the consummate worrier from a batch of neurotic NYers! He worries about EVERYTHING, to the point where that if I let my worries have free reign too, Caroline wouldn't be able to move without a protective bubble suit on, so I have forced myself to pull back in order to not smother her with my paranoias as well as DHs. It's the only thing I can think to do!

Interesting that you say your DH is neurotic...my DH is soooo laid back! I think he's caused me to be *less* anxious!

I think "what if" a lot. As K grows, I find myself relaxing a bit about some things (germs, for example -- I started out being extremely anal about germs), but with each new phase of life comes new worries. I assume it will always be this way.
