When Emma is 7 1/2 months we are going to fly to CA to see my sister graduate. I am going to be in one area for an entire week and have use of one car, no need to move the car seat from car to car. the infant carrier we have is the graco snugride and the convertible I just bought is the Evenflo Triumph.
The main plus to bringing the snugride I see is if she happens to fall asleep in the car but the main fall back is straping it in each time or fighting to get her in and out...
I did not buy her a seat on the plane so I am not going to have to lug it with me throughout the airports.
Any thoughts?

She may be out of the snugride by that time so it might not be an issue

If she still fits in the snugride, cant you bring the base with and just check it at the airport?

I guess it is going to be a wait and see thing. She is in transition a lot right now, and I have a feeling a lot is going to change pretty quickly... clothing sizes etc. She is just growing so fast!
Karri- we installed the Truimph last night and as I took the snugride base out I thought, I should just take this!

if you have a few extra bucks, i'd get a different carseat for travel  i have the triumph and it's heavy and i wouldn't want to lug it anywhere.
i have a cosco touriva for travel. very light, and narrow so it's great on planes. i got it for $50 at kmart. (when not traveling i leave it at my mom's)

I am flying from Fl to Iowa and checking Abby's Evenflow Triumph. I am buying one of those carseat bags from babies r us to put it in.

It's only $20.00 so I figure it will be worth it. I didn't buy Abby a seat either and she will be exactly 7 months when I fly with her. So I'll let you know how it goes!!!

I was just re-reading my original post because something did not sound right, She is only going to be 6 1/2 months! We are flying in a week... I kept the box for the Triumph and may just use that and check it, but I am also going to check out that carrier that you mentioned.

We will be visiting my parents in FL when my DS is about that age. We are planning on just checking his evenflo triumph in a carseat bag that I got at target, it's an eddie bauer carseat bag but the triumph fits in it just fine, and have him ride on our laps unless there is an empty seat then we will bring the triumph onboard with us and put him in the seat.
I have seen too many carseats on the luggage carosel that are beat-up from not traveling in a good bag that I think that the bag was a good investment, not to mention you can wear the carseat as a backpack if needed in the bag. Not fun with the heavy triumph but a nice option if you have your hands full.
Check with your airline. Some airlines don't count carseats towards you free baggage allowance. You can always throw a few packs of diapers or whatever in with the carseat to take up the slack and then you have them when you arrive.

We have the graco snugrid too. We just got back from a trip ( airplane) and just brought the carrier only. We did not bring the base ( too much hassle ) and since with ATA Babies have to be by the window, we just buckled her in the carrier in the seat. Plus babies are free, and she was gaurenteed her own seat on the plane too.
IMO I would not use the other seat or the base to this one. You really dont need it since it buckels in without it. .....It will be easier in the end.....
