This is what appears on the keiosk of Columbine High School today. Classes are not being held. There is a memorial service that will begin at 4:30pm with a candle light vigil to follow at 7:30pm.

For me this is an event I will always remember exactly where I was when I heard the news. I was at my desk at work and one of my customers in Texas called to ask what was going on with kids in our high schools. I was so shocked as I turned on the radio and search the web to find that no one knew what exactly was going on. My DH (my boyfriend at the time) worked across the street from Columbine High School. He heard the sirens of emergency vehicles. He saw students flooding out of the school into Clement Park next door. I called fantically wondering what was going on since we couldn't get information through news channels. When we were finally home together we could do nothing but watch in horror as details unfolded. We spent many nights that week at the make-shift memorials at Columbine and Clement Park, crying and holding each other. Reading the heart-felt messages left by family, friends and complete strangers. The piles of flowers and teddy bears which were piled on Rachel Scott's car that still sat in the parking lot of the school.

This happened in my own backyard. My DH lived two miles away at the time. My co-worker still will not allow her sons to attend Columbine and applies for a interdistrict transfer every year. The wounds are still very raw.

A time to remember, a time to hope........
