View Full Version : Going Home Clothes?

I have a couple of questions about what clothes to get for after his birth....first, when after giving birth did you wear something other than a nightgown? I guess I'm asking because if you were in the hospital for several days did you just take several gowns and then an outfit to wear home? And what did you wear home? What size did you get or did you just wear something you already had (like early pregnancy clothes)? I'm going to shopping this weekend to get stuff to pack my bags and I need suggestions!

I was thinking about something like this

(these are capris) and a big t-shirt to wear home. Or would you get something nicer? We'll have an hour drive home, so I want to be comfy and cool! Thanks!

i wore home what i wore in. less packing. trust me, your mat. pants are still going to fit when you leave.

i had a scheduled section and was in the hospital for 3.5 days. i wore the hospital gown and my own robe for the first 2 days, on the third day i wore flannel pants and a t-shirt. i couldn't stand being in pajamas all day!

I wore the hospital gowns almost the whole time, I was afaid to get blood on my own (I wore my own socks and they DID get blood on them). I took maternity pants and a nursing top to wear home.

I wore a nursing gown the whole time and I just wore what I went to the hospital in. I'd definitely bring maternity clothes..

I also wore the hospital gown the whole time I was in the hospital, had a c-section so it was 4 days. Wore maternity clothes home. Wore a long sleeve shirt and knit pants, jcpenny has the ones with the adjustable waist which were great for those first few weeks.
I didn't want to create more laundry do one once I got home by wearing my own pj's in the hospital and after the c-section, not planned, I sure didn't feel like wearing anything but the hospital gown anway.

I wore a maternity shirt and sweats in the hospital and going home. I think your outfit sounds perfect.

In the hospital, I wore a nightgown that my mom had made for me. It had extra buttons so that I could nurse easily.

Going home, I refused to wear maternity clothes. I wore a pair of fleece pants that were so stretchy that I wore them throughout my pregnancy. I also wore a big t-shirt, and a fleece sweater.

I think your outfit sounds great. Comfy is important.

I wore the same thing going home that I wore in...enormous sweat pants and a huge maternity shirt, because by that stage it was all that fit. In the hospital I wore a nursing nightgown.

This time around I'm wearing maternity capris there with a t shirt, and will wear the same thing home. For in the hospital, I have a nursing nightgown and a pair of nursing PJ's...I'm having a c section, so I can just pull the waist of the pants down for them to check my incision.

I wore the hospital gown only for as long as I had to. I had Kamdyn at 12:13am. That morning around 8am I took a bath and changed into stretchy waisted pants and a t-shirt. Those hospital gowns are so uncomfortable and just made me feel nasty...especially since we had a lot of visitors.

To go home I brought overalls :) :)

To go home I wore the same clothes I wore in.....a pair of black maternity matte jersey pants, a grey maternity t-shirt and a maternity jean jacket.

It's so different for everyone. I wore the same thing home that I wore in. I actually brought some maternity clothes in that were a little smaller than the ones I wore in, and they DIDN'T FIT! So, I had to wear my lareger pants home that I wore in. That was sad!

Also, I had a really tiring and long labor and then a c-section, so I didn't care about ANYTHING at all other than my baby after he was born. I wore the hospital gown the whole time and I just left it open and just pulled up to cover myself. I was so dang tired - I just didn't care!

Thanks ladies! Lots of great advice! So I did get a nice long nightgown that buttons to pack. And I did decide to get a very large stretchy tanktop to wear home, it actually fits me now even thought it's not maternity. And I plan to wear some maternity shorts home. I've been having contractions for the past two weeks (I'll be 35 wks Friday) at my NSTs so I'm also trying to have items in my bag should they keep me overnight after one of these NSTs! But I definitely will have very large, maternity type clothes to wear home....now if I can just find the little guy something....

oh and I wanted to add the cutest thing my DH did while I was looking for something to wear home and for a gown....I found a pair of capris with pink stripes and he asked what I'd wear with them....well a pink shirt of course......he was appalled! He said I was having a BOY so I should wear blue home.....:lol2: It was just too cute and funny, as though Benjamin will have any clue what mommy or anyone else has on for that matter! I did however, change my mind about the capris and just ended up with a nice striped blue tank!

last time i wore the hospital gown the whole time i was there (I lost a lot of blood during labor, and was too weak to shower until late the next day, and out of convenience and tiredness just put on a new hospital gown.) i wore my own robe only during the one trip out of the room i made on the last day i was there) this time though, i think i'd like to plan better and bring a nursing nightgown (which i normally hate, but would be easier with the bleeding/pants changes) and some comfy pj pants and a nursing top to choose from in the hospital.

for the short trip home, last time i only had late maternity clothes, but they just felt SO frumpy and big, that this time i'm going to bring something a little smaller (i have some great stretchy non-maternity running pants from target) and a big polo shirt or something. i was so ready to not be in huge clothes that it was frustrating that that was all i had at the time.

:help2: Okay I have a question for you ladies ...I am having a hysterectomy and they are going to cut into my old c-section scar. Now my baby is 13 yrs old ..so I really don't remember what I wore the last time :duh: . But I am having a hard time trying to decide what I will wear home from the hospital . I want something easy to get into and something comfortable . My mom told me to stay away from pants of any kind because they could try to stick to my stitches. I am heavy so I wonder .....
I looked at the old lady house coats(My grandmother loved these) and they are just too granny for me . What else could I use ???? I bought my slippers already but I am having a hard time with the going home outfit !
