Ami April 15th, 2004, 11:41 AM We are going to Cancun in July. We are looking for a nice (not the BEST but clean and comfy) all inclusive hotel in the hotel district. We want to be on the beach. I have found tons of hotel and flight packages for $500-$1000 which is the range we are looking for. Has anyone stayed at a hotel they would recommend? Or have you stayed at one you would NOT recommend?
bunybomb April 15th, 2004, 12:33 PM Any of the Palace Resorts in Cancun are fantastic and cater to families.
Ami April 15th, 2004, 06:28 PM cool, thanks! anyone else? it is just adults going if that helps :aok:
Melissa April 15th, 2004, 08:37 PM I've stayed at the Sun Palace twice and LOVED it! Its right on the beach, smallish hotel but the service is awesome! I've heard great things about the Beach and Cancun Palaces. Plus they offer free tours with your stay (depending on how you are booked). The palace resorts are great for families and couples. There are less families at the Sun Palace, but its not adults only.
My parents have stayed at the Royal Solaris, which they didn't like at all. They also stayed at the Fiesta Americana Condessa which they loved! You can do an all-inclusive plan at the FAC or a European plan. I believe that you can buy EP for a few days and then AI for the rest (that way if you want to venture out to different restaurants you can).
Other than the baby boards that I go to, I'm a complete Cancunaholic. I'm going on my third trip in June to the Omni which I haven't heard a bad thing about yet (it also has the AI/EP choice). Here are some of the Cancun boards that I like:

On these boards my ID is Melissa in CT or captain_hug99.
Ami April 16th, 2004, 12:39 PM thanks Melissa! I will go check those out.
Sunshine1020 April 16th, 2004, 01:51 PM I stayed at the Cacun Palace several years ago. I really loved staying there!! It is so beautiful and I really felt like I never had to go out if I didn't want to. :)
I did, however, have one of my bags stollen out of my locked room. Only a staff member could have gotten in there to get it out. I know this could happen anywhere, but just remember to lock up your possessions somewhere safe! My bag was in lost and found that same day, it was just missing some valuable items!
I still would recommend the hotel and would probably go back, I would just be more careful about where I put things!!

That's funny, I stayed there with my family and loved it.
DH and I have gone to Cancun twice (in addition to the one trip I took there with my family) and both times we stayed at the Blue Bay Village which I believe is now called the Blue Bay Getaway. It is much less expensive than the Palace resorts, etc. but is definitely a FUN place to stay. It's adults-only and there are always lots of fun activities going on (but of course you can always skip those and just relax by the pool!). My favorite part of staying there was its location on the beach - the water down at that end was calm and still, versus the water at the Royal Solaris where it was very choppy and you couldn't swim in it.
Melissa April 17th, 2004, 09:57 AM That's funny, I stayed there with my family and loved it.
I think my parents just got tee'd off because of some rude waiters. My parents complained about the food and that the soda didn't taste right and the waiter basically said, "that's the way it is, if you don't like it tough." Well, that made my dad pretty furious, so they ordered ONE of EVERYTHING off the menu (since they went the all inclusive route).
Oh, the other thing they didn't like (which probably wouldn't have bothered me) was that the entertainment staff had music going all day long, which they thought was too loud. Plus they thought the games at the pool were a little too MTV spring breakish.
I recognize that they are fuddy-duddys sometimes, so I usually take what they don't like with a grain of salt.
Ami April 17th, 2004, 11:34 AM thanks everyone! I appreciate your help.
Another ?, is the beach sectioned off with each hotel? If we stay at hotel XYZ we can't go to the beach area at hotel ABC?
Melissa April 17th, 2004, 12:45 PM All the beaches are public in Cancun, the only thing you may not be able to do is sit in the chairs that are laid out for each hotel. Usually those chairs are marked with a sign that says, "guests of XYZ hotel only."
There is a huge are that is called the "public beach" that is probably one of the best spots to go swimming.
Ami April 18th, 2004, 11:07 PM oh good, thanks!
Melissa April 19th, 2004, 01:21 PM Too bad we're not going at the same time! It would have been awesome to meet a fellow OUAL'er. We're going at the beginning of June.
Ami April 19th, 2004, 03:07 PM damn! we WERE going then but I thought I needed a little more time with my BFing baby.
catalina April 19th, 2004, 05:56 PM I'll be there on the last days of June visiting my brother, if anyone is planning to go please tell me ;)

Dawn May 16th, 2004, 02:26 PM We went to Cancun several years back in the mo. of September and stood at the 'Grand Oasis' http://www.oasishoteles.com/ingles/ingles01.html (click on Mexico and then Grand Oasis)

This place was beautiful and we really loved it. It's all inclusive (all meals, drinks, gratuities, etc. included)....however, we found out that for some dinners you had to pay if you wanted particular dishes (lobster, etc.). All in all, this place is really nice inside & out and the pool is simply amazing (has one of the largest free flowing pools on the island)! The lobby is beautiful with hanging gardens. For every drink you wanted you had to sign something which kinda sucked...but you get use to it after a while. :) There are lots of bars and 3 of them are swim up bars. :)
Definately check this hotel out & see if it's something your interested in. :)
Let me know if you have any questions. :)

Hi Buny and Capnhug -
Did you like the food at the palace resorts? and the drinks? (i.e., strong enough, and good booze) - have to ask the important questions! haha!
Also - i know golf is not included, but is scuba diving and the other sports?

The food was my favorite part! Drinks are good, but I can't say they are STRONG, but you can always ask to add more and it's unlimited. No, the booze quality is not top shelf, but who cares.....you are in Mexico!
Any non-motorized water sports are NOT included, but you can get some good package deals and do a few activities for one price. Scuba is also an additional charge.
