I'd probably score crunchier if I counted things up right, but I will have to call myself oatmeal. The choices I made have more to do with my own convenience than wanting to be an Earth-mother.
For example:
Vaccines on schedule - HA - late as always because I forget appointments
Breastfed while pregnant - till I was wasting away to nothing! Weaned at 8 months so I doubt that counts
Cosleeping - only to breastfeed, because I consider a good night's sleep ruined if my feet have to touch the floor.
Breastfeeding - see above.
NFP - we don't have sex often enough to bother with any other method.
No Circumcision - because here they charge you $80. Its not worth the bother.
Homebirth - well, I came pretty close to a "backseat of Malibu Sedan" birth, if that counts for anything...

I was almost a negative 5! Yikes! But I ended up a zero. Which is not surprising, but funny because my aunt and uncle gave me a subscription to Mothering (the ultimate crunchy magazine - hello, have they MET me?) as a baby gift. HA!

I'm Pretty Crispy. I think I'd be Mmm... Love that Whole Grain Crunch, if I had been able to breastfeed. There really wasn't a choice for me in that question, because I didn't *choose* not to BF, I just wasn't able to. And I couldn't really answer the self-led weaning one, either, since I wasn't able to BF...

 I got a 0, jello! Good thing I have a sling, or I would have gotten a -5. Although, I did give co-sleeping a 0, even though I don't mind it, I just prefer my kids sleep in their own beds, so I can get some sleep too.

It's called elimination communication. It's where you observe your baby for signs they have to pee and/or poop and put them on the potty. Some start at birth or in the first few months. I considered but can't really see doing it, especially now with two. It's hard enough trying to potty train

Okay, I made it to Instant Oatmeal only because I have pcos and have to chart to figure out if I'm ovulating and we have a baby bjorn.
I totally agree with Kim on this quiz. And BTW, was I the only one who got the heebee-jeebees when reading this question?: "14. Would you/have you ever breastfeed/fed someone else's baby or have someone else bf your child?" I thought we were socially past the whole "wet nurse" concept--yikes!

Hmmm...my son survived because my sister donated breastmilk for him... I had extreme low supply, formula gave him severe reflux, so the only way I could get him to eat was to mix formula with my sister's breastmilk and then use it in a lactaid so that he received that supplement while nursing. And yes, I would breastfeed another child if there was a situation where that arose...most likely it'd be where there was no access to formula and the baby was sick or something... So, definately no heebee jeebees here...although cow's milk sort of gives me the heebee jeebees, so I suppose everyone has their thing...

Some people my BIL/SIL know have been practicing elimination communication from their son's birth! They live in an ultra-crunchy environment and they are considered on the extreme end of crunchy in that community.
They said they just watched their son very closely and picked up the cues he gave (changes in facial expression, clenching leg muscles, etc.) when he about to pee/poo....then ran him straight to the potty!
Personally, I couldn't imagine doing this! You'd have to watch your child intently ALL the time....and I just don't have the energy.

LOL...Bran gets pleasure out of peeing on the floor the exact second we look at him (he runs around naked for an hour or so at night). I don't think EC would work very well for us...he thinks it's too funny to pee on the floor!
Karri
February 23rd, 2005, 03:46 PM
Oh my --i read up on EC because it intrigued me (not because I would EVER do it!). No way could I do it. Norah takes delight in peeing on the floor during naked time (before bath), and let me tell you....she shows no signs of it until I notice my wet sock :dead:
AllyRae
February 23rd, 2005, 03:59 PM

sheila
February 23rd, 2005, 04:07 PM
 Nope, I don't think EC would work for me, either.
Last year, while I was still pumping, I accidentally left about 20 oz of EBM in my parents' fridge. My cousin, who had twins and was barely keeping up with demand lived close by, so I offered it to her. Her DH got the willies about it a little (actually, after I made the offer, it kind of freaked me out, too  ) but she had an interesting way of looking at it: At least with my EBM, they knew what they were getting and where/who it was coming from instead of getting synthetic stuff from machines & a big corporation. I have no idea if they ever used it.
Karri

Yea, I see it as potty training for mommy...you end up trained to see your kids signals...and then bring them to the potty...I couldn't imagine how many times a day you'd be doing that with a newborn...but then these kids usually end up full potty trained (taking themselves to the bathroom) between 12 and 18 months.

I've donated my breastmilk, I would breastfeed someone elses baby if they wanted me too, and if I knew the person well enough I would give my kids there breastmilk or allow them to breastfeed my kids if it was an extreme circumstance...I'd do all of that before giving my kids formula...And, I'm with ally, cows milk also scares me...
AllyRae
February 24th, 2005, 12:42 PM
Yep Jillian....if my sister wouldn't have donated a bunch, I would have taken you up on your offer to donate. While Bran has to have formula, the donated milk made it more tolerable on his stomach. :)
