I am becoming a SAHM as of 4/30. I was wondering for those who worked before and became a sAHM, was it a hard adjustment to lose your income? How did you cope?
I make about 1/3 of our total family income. We paid off most of our debts so we just have our mortgage, 1 car loan, and then our regular utility bills.

It hasn't been that tough for us, even though I quit working far earlier (midway through pregnancy, rather than after birth) than expected. We had already paid off one car, Brian's student loans, and all credit card debt and were living off of Brian's salary (while putting mine into savings and into my student loan debt.)

We are struggling hard right now, but when i quit we were not expecting for Dave to also fold his construction business. That being said we have not had income since the beginning of the year... honestly it is starting to get scary but we are holding out on this one job that will allow him to use what he has learned doing construction but get out of the hands on that tears people up.
We are also going to be selling this house once we get his family's house finished (full remodel) so we will not have a mortgage anymore and just owewhat we put into the remode.

We are struggling a bit too. But...I was *supposed* to be working from home. I had a deal with my company before I left, and they have basically screwed me over. They haven't given me a project since the first of the year when I was supposed to have about 20 hours a week of work to do. We are able to pay our bills but we are saving next to nothing at the moment. Since we just sold our condo, we are paying off all of our debt (cc's and my student loans) and buying a cheaper house than originally intended. I am also going to look for a part time job. Nothing big, but we need some play money, and I feel the need to have some structure in my life. I am hoping to work 3 nights a week after DH gets home so we won't need childcare for Jackson.
If everything had gone as planned, I think the transition would have been much easier. Yeah we gave up about 1/3 of our income, but we spend a lot less money than we used to.

We really didn't notice it much. We moved into a home w/ a cheaper motgage at the same time I left my job. Then Chris got a raise. And we no longer had to pay for daycare. We kind of always had to watch what we spent...and that is no different now.
