Brooke April 6th, 2004, 01:45 PM I know, I know...More questions..... But I'm new to this!
1. Do you have to register your child every year?
2. Is there a registration fee every year?
3. What is considered a "year"? Do they follow the school year?
4. Who decides when they change rooms or move up? Do they move as a group?
5. Do parents often bring in stuff for the whole class?
Brooke April 6th, 2004, 01:55 PM I'll answer for comparison. I just want to know if our place is "normal".
1. Do you have to register your child every year? Yes. Registration starts in Feb. for the following August.
2. Is there a registration fee every year? Yes, $60, non-refundable.
3. What is considered a "year"? Do they follow the school year? They follow the school year. Sept to June is the normal session and there is a summer daycamp-like program.
4. Who decides when they change rooms or move up? Do they move as a group? I still haven't figured this one out. Rebekah is with the "young 2's", they all turned 2 within 6 months of each other, between Sept and Feb. And, from the impression I got, they will move up to the next room together. But I don't know when.
5. Do parents often bring in stuff for the whole class? As I was dropping Rebekah off today, someone brought in a huge basket filled with mini baskets, one for each kid. I knew parents sometimes bring a snack for the class but this was more than that.
Jenn April 6th, 2004, 01:57 PM 1. Do you have to register your child every year?We have to at our school.
2. Is there a registration fee every year?Yes, we do but I can't remember how much it is. Maybe $50? :dunno:
3. What is considered a "year"? Do they follow the school year? We had to re-register in August of last year so I think that's what they consider the new school year.
4. Who decides when they change rooms or move up? Do they move as a group? Mainly the teachers decide but if I felt that Peyton was ready to move up then I could talk to them about it.
5. Do parents often bring in stuff for the whole class? I know that on birthdays and for holidays some of the parents bring in stuff but other than that I haven't seen anyone bring anything in.
Dennis April 6th, 2004, 02:06 PM 1. Do you have to register your child every year?
No, once they're in, they're in.
2. Is there a registration fee every year?
No.
3. What is considered a "year"? Do they follow the school year?
The raise rates every September, so I would say that's when the "year" starts.
4. Who decides when they change rooms or move up? Do they move as a group?
The move up individually. I think it's every 2 or 3 months they have a meeting with one teacher from each room and they decide who is ready to move up and which rooms they are going to move into. I like this because they really take into account the individual needs of each child. They kept Joe in his one year old room a little longer so he could have some time to be the oldest one. Then when they moved him to the two year old room, they moved his best friend with him.
5. Do parents often bring in stuff for the whole class?
Just at birthdays. The standard seems to be to bring in a cake of some sort and goody bags.

Connie1222 April 6th, 2004, 02:37 PM Well, Jack goes to an in home daycare so it's a bit different:
1. Do you have to register your child every year? No
2. Is there a registration fee every year? No, but there is a school supply fee we have to pay in September, I think it was $20.
3. What is considered a "year"? Do they follow the school year? September to August, they are closed the last 3 weeks of August.
4. Who decides when they change rooms or move up? Do they move as a group? They are in a mixed age setting so no moving.
5. Do parents often bring in stuff for the whole class? Yes, on the days they have parties for holidays, the parents usually give each child a small toy or treat.
Lette April 6th, 2004, 03:09 PM 1. Do you have to register your child every year? Nope
2. Is there a registration fee every year? Nope, but they have a spring and fall activity collection. I think it's $25 for arts & craft stuff
3. What is considered a "year"? Do they follow the school year?
4. Who decides when they change rooms or move up? Do they move as a group? Usually the kids move up near their birthday. But this year they were moving to a whole new building so kids weren't moved so as to decrease the anxiety on the kids. Since there was a MAJOR delay in moving, Lexie didn't move to the 2 room until a few weeks ago. She's now 27 months old.
They usually have a little transition time where a few that are going to move, spend an hour or two, then 1/2 day in their new class. They almost always move up more than 1 child. I like that because I feel Lexie gets to move up with a friend. :)
5. Do parents often bring in stuff for the whole class? Usually for planned parties.. IE. Halloween and Valentines Day. There's a sign up sheet for you to pick from. Last time we did yogurt and the time before fruit salad (yummy yummy! ) I've also seen some parents bring in cupcakes for birthdays, but Lexie's always out for the week of her Birthday (Dec 29th you know. )
Shanna April 6th, 2004, 03:21 PM 1. Do you have to register your child every year?
Nope.
2. Is there a registration fee every year?
Yes, but I don't have to pay it
3. What is considered a "year"? Do they follow the school year?
Not really, but they do have a most "structured" environment during the school year.
4. Who decides when they change rooms or move up? Do they move as a group? Usually just whenever they are ready to move up, they do. My son and my nephew are a week apart, and they always move up together.
5. Do parents often bring in stuff for the whole class? Every so often they bring things. I'll bring a box of graham crackers for the class on occasion b/c they all like them and those little fruit snacks. We have holiday parties with sign-up lists, and of course, on birthdays most parents bring something.
miacat April 6th, 2004, 03:26 PM 1. Do you have to register your child every year? No. But they do ask if you DON'T plan to have your child enrolled in the fall for whatever reason that you let them know.
2. Is there a registration fee every year? No, but there is an activity fee each year for kids 3 & up.
3. What is considered a "year"? Do they follow the school year? The activity fee is due in January, but they follow the school year for classroom moves.
4. Who decides when they change rooms or move up? Do they move as a group? The center director, in consultation with the teachers and parents decide when they change rooms. They move both as a group, and individually. It depends on space and birthdays, etc. . . The largest move is in September with the start of the new school year.
5. Do parents often bring in stuff for the whole class? No, not very often. Sometimes on holidays.
Faye April 6th, 2004, 08:42 PM 1. Do you have to register your child every year? No
2. Is there a registration fee every year? No
3. What is considered a "year"? Do they follow the school year? From the date my child began, no matter what day of the year it was
4. Who decides when they change rooms or move up? Do they move as a group? They move up when they are the correct age for the room and their current teacher thinks they are ready. They usually try it out for a couple of weeks at first by letting the child visit the new room each day off and on. That makes the transition much easier.
5. Do parents often bring in stuff for the whole class? I do for parties and what not. For Easter I am taking in goodie bags and juice boxes. There are snack items that other parents are bringing as well.
Nicole April 13th, 2004, 01:39 PM 1. Do you have to register your child every year?
Yes.
2. Is there a registration fee every year?
It's $75 for the first year and then I think $50 for subsequent years.
3. What is considered a "year"? Do they follow the school year?
They follow the school year so the new year starts at the end of August.
4. Who decides when they change rooms or move up? Do they move as a group?
Teachers decide, with the parent's permission. It's done on an idividual basis and there is wiggle room. Abby is in the 1 1/2- 3 year old room and kids are moved up between 2 1/2 and 3, depending on their size, maturity, etc.
5. Do parents often bring in stuff for the whole class?
For birthdays and such. We also bring goodies for party days, but since Abby is only there 2 days a week she misses out on a lot of those, Easter was her first party on her day to go.

koalita April 25th, 2004, 11:38 PM 1. Do you have to register your child every year? Yes
2. Is there a registration fee every year? Yes, I think it's $50...?
3. What is considered a "year"? Do they follow the school year? It follows the school year, so it starts in Sept.
4. Who decides when they change rooms or move up? Do they move as a group? When Jason was 22 months the director and I agreed that Jason was ready for the 2-year-old room, so we started transitioning him then. He went there for a few hours each day for a couple days and he had so much more fun in there that we put him in there full time. He moved up by himself, and he is still by far the youngest in that room.
5. Do parents often bring in stuff for the whole class? For holidays, like for Valentine's Day each kid had their own bag and the parents brought in Valentines for them.
