View Full Version : Southern Ontarians
meedz April 2nd, 2004, 12:48 PM Hey everyone,
My name is Jessica and I live in Kitchener, Ontario. I have a 9 month old daughter named Lauryn.
I just went through the Canadian thread and realized there are quite a few of us from Southern Ontario. I thought we could do a recap of where everyone is from and see if there is a chance of a get together in the near future. Many of us are only 1-2 hours from each other and if we can find a spot that works for everyone, maybe we could meet.
Marg April 5th, 2004, 12:45 PM :wavey: Jessica!
My name is Marg and I live in Newmarket. :) I have a 3.5 year old dd, Sloane, a 19 month old ds, Parker and am 24 weeks pg with another boy. :)
I think a get together would be wonderful!
KimInCanada April 6th, 2004, 07:23 PM Hi Jessica! Hello Marg!

BeckyB April 8th, 2004, 10:30 PM :wavey: Hello fellow Canadians. I am Becky and I am from Hamilton too (:yippee: its great to see another Hamiltonain). I am married to my DH Eddie. We have two children Macie who is 26 months old and Matthew who is almost 5 months old. I think a get together is a great idea.
meedz April 11th, 2004, 11:04 PM Hi Marg, Kim, Sarah and Becky :wavey:
LISA April 12th, 2004, 08:50 AM Hi Everyone :wavey:
My name is Lisa, I live in Hamilton( well StoneyCreek)
with my husband Tony,daughters Cass(14 :tearhair: ) and Paige( 2.5 :tearhair: )
I would love to get together with everyone! the zoo get together was fun but we really didn't get to spend enough time with each other before getting seperated *pout* does anyone have any suggestions on a good location to meet up?
KimInCanada April 12th, 2004, 09:34 AM Maybe a lunch, somewhere in between where we can all get to? Other ideas...?
LISA April 12th, 2004, 11:26 AM How about an outlet mall? we can all get something to eat and then shop  who doesn't like to shop lol...isn't there a place in Mississauga that has an amusement park in the mall? Woodbine I think?
meedz April 12th, 2004, 11:42 AM I'd be up for that. I don't know Mississauga well, but I met up with a journal buddy from Toronto and we had lunch there. It was fairly equal driving distance for both of us. Square One is also in Mississauga, but it doesn't have an amusement park.
Chantal April 13th, 2004, 01:28 PM Hi everyone!
I am just a bit east of all of you --- I am in Kingston :)
I didnt get to make it to the zoo trip - Dh was working that weekend. Also, I am not a *Toronto Driver* if you know what I mean... I am originally from Sudbury Ont. (a Northern Gal ;) )
meedz April 13th, 2004, 01:36 PM Hey Lisa,
I just checked online and Woodbine Centre is actually in Etobicoke, not Mississauga.
KimInCanada April 13th, 2004, 02:10 PM I didnt get to make it to the zoo trip - Dh was working that weekend. Also, I am not a *Toronto Driver* if you know what I mean...
I Chantal! I know exactly what you mean! I'm not a Toronto Driver either! LOL ;)
There's a mall that actually has an amusement park in the mall? West Edmonton Mall is a bit far though! LOL ;)
geogirl April 13th, 2004, 02:43 PM Hi!
I'm Tammy and I live in Cambridge with my husband John. We got married July 5, 2003 and we are now TTC #1 :)
LISA April 13th, 2004, 03:53 PM Hey Lisa,
I just checked online and Woodbine Centre is actually in Etobicoke, not Mississauga.
Silly me  is there an amusement park in the mall though?
Add me to the "not a Toronto driver" list
meedz April 13th, 2004, 04:34 PM Yes, you were right about the amusement park Lisa.
Chantal April 14th, 2004, 09:38 PM The closest I will drive towards Toronto -- is Whitby/Oshawa. This is only because I have driven that far many times, to go visit my IL's in Parry Sound. Also, I used to take that route when I lived in Belleville (went to College there) and would drive home whenever I had a few days off in a row.
My only other option for anything happening *in* TO... is to park in Whitby and take the Go-Train... which is not the best idea when toting a Todzilla along too ;) KWIM?
KimInCanada April 15th, 2004, 10:38 AM Would Oakville be in the middle of all of us? Yes, I'm Geographically challenged! I admit it!! LOL
Well, Etobocoke is just outside T.O right betweeen Mississauga/Toronto?
meedz April 15th, 2004, 10:43 AM I'm not sure Kim. I know that Mississauga is fairly in between for most of us. Were we thinking of just the women meeting or children as well? I'm fine with either. There all lots of places to meet for lunch.
Jess
LISA April 15th, 2004, 12:45 PM I just checked the Woodbine sight and there is only one store in the "mall"?? and the rides are more geared to older kids..
http://www.woodbinecentre.ca/home/index.ch2
Kim, what's in Oakville?
KimInCanada April 15th, 2004, 12:53 PM Kim, what's in Oakville?
:dunno: DUNNO! :rotflmao:
KimInCanada April 17th, 2004, 10:13 AM With the nicer weather coming.....
How about finding a nice park with some grass, a playground for the kids and some picnic tables. We could have, maybe a pot luck lunch. Spend the afternoon chatting, eating and having fun with the kids.
How does that sound? LOL Where...don't know. :supergrin
KimInCanada April 17th, 2004, 10:15 AM OH, and Chantal can teach me how to crochet! LOL ;)
meedz April 17th, 2004, 10:41 AM Kim, I think that's a great idea. With the help of DH, I checked out some parks in Mississauga as I think it's still the best place to meet from where we all live. He suggested Streetsville Memorial Park. It sounds really nice and should be the easiest for everyone to get to. Here is a link.

Let me know what you think.
Jess
KimInCanada April 17th, 2004, 11:41 AM Hey, looks great to me! They have lost of stuff there... tables, barbecues, comfort stations, shady areas, trails, playground....
LISA April 17th, 2004, 04:17 PM That looks good Jess! and Kim is Bronte Creek Park is in Oakville :) here is the link..
http://www.ontarioparks.com/english/bron.html
Marg April 17th, 2004, 05:47 PM That looks like a great spot!
BeckyB April 17th, 2004, 05:58 PM Great idea ladies.........we will definitely come
meedz April 17th, 2004, 07:14 PM Just wanted to clarify. Are we still considering the Mississauga park or is Oakville a suggestion?
BeckyB April 17th, 2004, 07:25 PM Doesnt matter to me!!
Are we thinking on a weekend? And will DH be coming too. I know I will need mine there to help take care of my very busy toddler while I take care of Matthew and I wont be able to go if DH doesnt because I dont drive.
ArtsyMom April 17th, 2004, 08:04 PM Hi everyone.
Thanks for pointing me here, Jess. :aok:
My name is Lisa and we have a wonderful son named Joshua - 7.5 months old.
I'd be into meeting in Mississauga. We live in Toronto (and I *am* a Toronto driver  ) and were actually just visiting some friends in Hamilton today!
During the week might be less busy but a weekend could work too.
~Deborah~ April 17th, 2004, 08:41 PM :wavey:
I'm here!!!!!!!!! I am Deborah and I have been married to Jay for the past 6 yrs (june 27). We have two wonderful sons, Joshua who is 2 and Kyle who will be 6 months old soon.
Oh ya,,,,I am in Burlington and I would LOVE to meet up with everyone. Bronte Creek works for me...only a 5 minute drive for me .
meedz April 18th, 2004, 10:01 AM I think considering where everyone is coming from (Toronto, Newmarket, Kitchener-Waterloo, Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Burlington) Mississauga is fair for everyone and probably the easiest to get to for the majority. DH tried to explain to me how everyone could go to Streetsville Park and how people would have to get to Bronte Creek and the second one seems a bit more complicated. Is everyone okay with this?
This should be fun. So far, it looks like 6 of us are interested. Let's see if we can get anymore.
Jess
~Deborah~ April 18th, 2004, 10:06 AM Streetsville park seems more complicated to get to:dunno: . Bronte Creek is just off the QEW ....Burloak cut off. You can actually see it from the highway.
Either place will work for me though.
meedz April 18th, 2004, 10:28 AM I actually just discovered that Oakville is closer to me than Mississauga, but maybe we should see what is best for the majority. I don't mind either.
LISA April 18th, 2004, 11:23 AM Dh would be driving me anyway and it would have to be on a day that he is off so any place that you all decide will be ok with me :) I just hope his schedule works out so I can go :crossfing
~Deborah~ April 18th, 2004, 11:36 AM Dh would be driving me anyway and it would have to be on a day that he is off so any place that you all decide will be ok with me :) I just hope his schedule works out so I can go :crossfing
Tony could always drop you off at my house and we could put Paige's carseat in my car
Stacy April 18th, 2004, 11:56 AM I am down in Welland. My name is Stacy. Dh is Rick and DS is Dylan who just turned 2 a couple weeks ago.
I'd love to meet somewhere however I have major travel anxiety.
magoo April 18th, 2004, 07:19 PM Just to be difficult, a morning and then lunch together would be easier for us considering that Anna naps right after lunch. I would love to get together, though if the timing works out!
Sarah
LISA April 19th, 2004, 07:50 AM Tony could always drop you off at my house and we could put Paige's carseat in my car
Thanks Deb your sweet!
I guess we better decide on a day/week/month/time as I won't be here the first week of August.
meedz April 19th, 2004, 09:03 AM The earliest I could make it is 11 as my little one still has a morning nap. Unless that changes by the time we go. If DH's are coming, than I would suggest a weekend. If not, a Friday might be possible for me, but I won't know for about a week or so.
~Deborah~ April 19th, 2004, 09:10 AM Anytime is fine with me. Joshua has pretty much given up naps in the afternoon (goes to bed earlier at night then  )and Kyle can sleep anywhere .
ArtsyMom April 19th, 2004, 05:06 PM I'd rather do Mississauga and my little guy naps from 12:30-1:30 pm or so but maybe he'd nap on the way there?? :dunno: Or, we could come later.
The best time for us would be around 2:30 pm. :aok:
meedz April 20th, 2004, 09:50 AM It looks like we're going to have some problems with nap schedules. I really hope we can work it out for one day. Considering everyone wants to go and meet, it would be a shame if someone couldn't go because of that. Lauryn might be a bit grouchy, but I'd be willing to make some sort of compromise if we could find a time that worked for everyone. I still think lunch sounds like a great idea. Maybe we could meet sometime in the morning and plan to have lunch around 11:30, so that some moms can get home with their kids for early afternoon naps. I know if Lauryn's tired enough, she'll sleep in the car.
Chantal April 21st, 2004, 01:58 PM http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_9_8.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001) Unfortunately, I wont be able to make it. I am not comfortable enough driving on my own through the city. Maybe next time we can get more *eastern* people involved and can meet somewhere east of Toronto ;) (perhaps the Bowmanville Zoo - its much smaller than the Toronto Zoo, but a nice place to spend the day).
ArtsyMom May 2nd, 2004, 08:21 PM I'm still okay. Have we picked a day?
ArtsyMom May 16th, 2004, 07:35 PM It looks like there's a GTG in Kingston in September. Sounds like fun but I doubt we'll make it. :dunno:
I'm still up for a mid-week or weekend GTG in the GTA in the summer. Anyone else? July or August is best for me. Anyone...Bueller...?
~Deborah~ May 16th, 2004, 08:06 PM Sounds great to me :)
meedz June 3rd, 2004, 10:00 AM Shall we revisit the get together idea? I'm still up for it, but the discussion has gone dormant. Let's find out who still wants to meet and pick a day that works. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays are good for me. Any suggestions?

You get milk in bags as well as cartons and plastic jugs.
It's called the CN Tower, not CNN Tower.

You know that Canada is the only country to successfully invade the US and burn its capital to the ground.
You are excited whenever an American television show mentions Canada.
You laugh afterward at some U.S. citizens' lack of knowledge of Canadian geography, but you are too polite to correct them.

You know that you can't take the subway from Toronto to Vancouver, or visit Niagara Falls, Banff, the CN Tower and Whistler in the same day!
