My sister is TTC. She's been having cramps for the last couple of days off and on and today she had major cramps and had to sit down. She said she thinks a cyst ruptured? Not exactly sure how she knows that but she did have u/s done before that showed a cyst. Anyway she said she's pretty sure that there's no way she could be pregnant because of that this month.

If indeed that was what happened, would it effect her chances of being pregnant or becoming pregnant this month? Would it effect her chances of becoming pregnant any month after this?

TIA!!

I have had cysts before, but I'm not sure if a ruptured one would make a difference when TTC. I just want to say if there is a chance she could be pregnant, she needs to see her Dr. and rule out a possible ectopic pregnancy.

I agree-she should be sure it wasn't an ectopic pregnancy. I've had cysts rupture before and the pain was intense. My Dr. said in many cases, the cyst is actually the "shell" of an egg that was released. The "shell" fills with fluid and creates a cyst. I didn't have any damamge from mine rupturing.
I hope she feels better.

Thank you so much for your responses!! I sent them to her to let her know what you all thought.

***Do you think that there is any chance if she were pregnant, that she still could be if a cyst has ruptured? TIA Again!

Your sister would likely be in intense pain if she had a ruptured cyst. Most times it requires surgery. Just because she saw a cyst on ultrasound, doesn't mean it will burst. All women have cysts at some time or another- they are called "functional" - and they go away on their own. Your sister might have a non-functional cyst, but I can't imagine it rupturing without a warning of that possibility from her doctor, or her running to the doctor to get another ultrasound. Also, where in her cycle was she when the cramps started? If its around ovulation time she could just be experienceing middleschmirtz. A ruptured cyst shouldn't effect fertility, however cystic ovaries (and PCOS) can. I can't really comment without knowing her situation/diagnosis. In any case, she should really see a doctor.

I would think if she were pregnant she could still be even if the cyst ruptured-the cysts normally (at least mine) are on the ovary, not in the uterus and my doc said it wouldn't affect pregnancy. I agree with the other poster-he cramps could be from ovulating-when my cyst ruptured the pain was so intense I needed to go to the emergency room.
