You can also use the vicks rub on stuff, breathe right strips (they also have some with vicks too), and a vaporizer will work wonders. I actually took a chance when I was sick and pregnant, I took Nyquil. I couldn't stand it anymore. My baby is perfectly healthy and fine. The reason that the docs don't want you to take Nyquil is the alcohol content, but I was willing to chance it to feel better and sleep!

I had two really bad colds when I was pregnant, and my doc said I could take Sudafed or plain Robitussin. I asked the pharmacist about the Vicks Vap-O-Rub, and she said I shouldn't take it because it can elevate the blood pressure. I was borderline PIH/pre-e at the time, so maybe if your BP is in the normal or low range, that wouldn't be a concern, but just thought I'd mention it, since I had no idea!

 Ditto to what the other girls said. My Doc said Sudafed or Tylenol Cold. She said to just be sure not to use any of the extended release 12 hour kinds.

I was told the same...Sudafed, Tylenol Cold or Robitussin. I use Vicks nightly under my nose and on my chest for congestion...I'd never heard it could elevate your BP, it's not ingested, so I don't understand how?
I also confess to taking Nyquil....I had a horrible cough last month and had only slept for 2 hours the night before...not good when you have an active 14 month old!! I finally caved and took 1/2 dose. Thankfully my OB prescribed Robitussion with CODIENE :woo: and I was able to sleep!!!

Ditto to what the others have said. I had a monthly check up yesterday at my OBGYN, and I also had (still have) a nasty cold. I asked her if there's anything I can take & she said I could take Robitussin, Tyl. cold or Sudafed. I've taken the sudafed, but unfortunately it's not working too good! I haven't had a decent sleep in 3 days. :blue:
I wasn't sure if Vick's vapor rub was ok. I think I will put some by my nose tonight to help me breath!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a list from my OB - any of these can be taken safely after 12 weeks gestation. (Benadryl and Tylenol can be taken at any time during pregnancy):
Nasal congestion, sinusitis, allergies/cold symptoms: Tylenol Cold or Tylenol Sinus, Sudafed, Ocean Nasal Spray, and Benadryl
for Cough: Ruitussin (plain, no alcohol)
for Sore throat, minor irritation: Throat lozenges, Cepacol lozenges, Chloroseptic, salt water gargles
Mild Rashes/allergies: Benadryl, Chlortrimeton, Caldadryl/Calamine lotion, baking soda baths, corn starch
Diarrhea: Kaopectate, Immodium
Fever: Acetaminophen, Tylenol regular or x-strength
Constipation: Milk of Magnesia, Metamucil, Haleys MO, Colace/Pericolace
Hemorroids: Preparation H, Tucks pads, Anusol, sitz bath, witch hazel
Hearburn/Indigestion: Maalox/Mylanta, Tums
Nausea: Vitamin B6 25mg 3 times daily, Benadryl 25-50 mg 4 times daily, Ginger tea, Bio Bands, Ginger candy
Yeast Infection: 3-7 day Monistat
Okay, that was probably way more than anyone wanted, but it might help someone out. This list is on my refrigerator.

Great list, Brandi! Thanks! :aok: I wonder why my dr. said it was ok for me to take the medicine if I was only 9 wks. preg. It does make sense for it to be safer at week 12. So far I've taken 3 doses of 2 pills each. I hope it's ok.....
