View Full Version : Cold Medicine Kate April 1st, 2004, 10:41 AM I was wondering what cold medicine is okay to take while pregnant? I feel like crap right now and I need to take something!! Thanks! TishM April 1st, 2004, 12:18 PM My doctor said Sudaffed and Tylenol Cold was ok to take! Hope you get better soon! kim April 1st, 2004, 12:20 PM i've been sick as well kate, i saw my ob on monday and he said sudafed and robitussin dm. Melissa April 2nd, 2004, 02:43 PM You can also use the vicks rub on stuff, breathe right strips (they also have some with vicks too), and a vaporizer will work wonders. I actually took a chance when I was sick and pregnant, I took Nyquil. I couldn't stand it anymore. My baby is perfectly healthy and fine. The reason that the docs don't want you to take Nyquil is the alcohol content, but I was willing to chance it to feel better and sleep! Nanley April 2nd, 2004, 10:15 PM I had two really bad colds when I was pregnant, and my doc said I could take Sudafed or plain Robitussin. I asked the pharmacist about the Vicks Vap-O-Rub, and she said I shouldn't take it because it can elevate the blood pressure. I was borderline PIH/pre-e at the time, so maybe if your BP is in the normal or low range, that wouldn't be a concern, but just thought I'd mention it, since I had no idea! Kate Cynister April 13th, 2004, 10:07 AM  Ditto to what the other girls said. My Doc said Sudafed or Tylenol Cold. She said to just be sure not to use any of the extended release 12 hour kinds. Amy April 13th, 2004, 10:08 PM I was told the same...Sudafed, Tylenol Cold or Robitussin. I use Vicks nightly under my nose and on my chest for congestion...I'd never heard it could elevate your BP, it's not ingested, so I don't understand how? I also confess to taking Nyquil....I had a horrible cough last month and had only slept for 2 hours the night before...not good when you have an active 14 month old!! I finally caved and took 1/2 dose. Thankfully my OB prescribed Robitussion with CODIENE :woo: and I was able to sleep!!! Dawn April 30th, 2004, 08:30 PM Ditto to what the others have said. I had a monthly check up yesterday at my OBGYN, and I also had (still have) a nasty cold. I asked her if there's anything I can take & she said I could take Robitussin, Tyl. cold or Sudafed. I've taken the sudafed, but unfortunately it's not working too good! I haven't had a decent sleep in 3 days. :blue: I wasn't sure if Vick's vapor rub was ok. I think I will put some by my nose tonight to help me breath!!!!!!!!!!! Brandi May 1st, 2004, 12:08 AM I have a list from my OB - any of these can be taken safely after 12 weeks gestation. This list is on my refrigerator. Dawn May 1st, 2004, 05:45 PM Great list, Brandi! Thanks! :aok: I wonder why my dr. said it was ok for me to take the medicine if I was only 9 wks. preg. It does make sense for it to be safer at week 12. So far I've taken 3 doses of 2 pills each. I hope it's ok..... Mary DK May 2nd, 2004, 03:11 PM Thanks for the list Brandi, it might come in handy sometime :aok: |
